PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING
As students and teachers gear up to take a week away from studies, I thought this would be a good time to review a bit of what has been happening at school. There has been a lot of good, and I would be remiss to not share!
First, this year's gala was a tremendous success by all standards! The event was thoughtfully and beautifully orchestrated. The number of attendees was up significantly (255 up from 192). The energy in the room, while difficult to quantify, was palpable. At the end of the night, the event is a fundraiser for our local financial aid. In addition to a new staff financial aid fund that benefited to the tune of over $11,000, the gala raised over $50,000 for student financial aid! Half of this will go to our endowment which will be sitting at about $364,000 after this deposit. The other half will be used for families next year. It is a blessing to be able to offer Catholic education to families because of the support of donors and the efforts of the many volunteers who put this event together. Thank you to Julie Schnoeblen, St. Ludmila, and the many volunteers who helped!
Next, while many of us are aware of the impact of losing a large 8th grade can have on a school's enrollment, we have enjoyed a great influx of calls and tours in February and March. In fact, we have more prospective families for next year than we did a year ago. On March 23, we will welcome our 8th and 9th new students during the school year, not including preschool. As such, we can feel hopeful that we may maintain enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year! With the improvements that Mrs. Lang and her team are making to the preschool, numbers in early childhood show positive trends as well.
Finally, we continue to work through our strategic planning initiatives. We will be excited to share an updated mission statement and vision statement as well as other language that will help Holy Family to strengthen and sustain itself. We are collecting survey data from families and are beginning a SWOT analysis right now as well. This is good and important work that will help our school continue to grow in excellence and enrollment.
Thank you for taking time to read this quick update and the newsletter. Partnership with our families is so important to a strong school system!
God bless you!

Buy Plants & Earn Money For Holy Family School
Spring Break is the perfect time to take orders from neighbors, co-workers, family, & friends for plants for their garden or gifts for Mother’s Day. A wonderful selection of hanging flower baskets & biodegradable pot inserts are available.
Don’t forget that orders are due on Monday, March 23rd when we return from Spring Break. (Pre-School-3 families may turn in orders on Tuesday, March 24th). See the Electronic Backpack for digital order forms to email or post on Facebook.
Hy-Vee Cash 4 Students
This program earns our school system $1 for every $200 collected in receipts from the 13 Cedar Rapids and Marion Hy-Vee Food Stores and Drugstores. For this current promotion, we are collecting receipts dated from April 1, 2019-March 31, 2020. Please remember to turn in all Hy-Vee receipts before March 31st.
Our volunteer that counts the receipts for us asks that you please not wait to turn in bags of receipts at the end of the promotion and to please turn in your receipts as you get them to make the counting more manageable! If you can help to count receipts please let your school office know!
So far our total earned is over $2300! Please keep the receipts coming to push our total even higher!
