Welcome Back | Attendance to School Events
As we continue to transition towards a pre-pandemic way of life, we are now moving towards allowing more and more people in our buildings and at school events.
- Parents will be welcomed back to our buildings for all events that they would normally be invited to pre-pandemic.
- Students are now allowed to attend middle school extracurricular events and sporting events as spectators.
- We will schedule assemblies that amplify our curriculum and school goals. We will notify families of assemblies via our school newsletter.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your building's principal.
Open Door With Superintendent Dr. Bein
Once a month, Dr. Bein hosts an Open Door for a chance to discuss ideas, concerns, or get answers to questions with parents and community members.
This month's Open Door information:
- Location: Dunton Administration Building (1200 S. Dunton Avenue)
- Date: March 15, 2022
- Contact: email Lana O'Brien (lobrien@sd25.org)
- Open Door Times: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Social Emotional Support for our Community
During this time of transition, strong emotions and opinions are often felt by many of our students. Throughout this year, District 25 students have honored their emotional intelligence through our social and emotional learning curriculum, RULER.
For more on RULER and for a RULER Family Tipsheet to help your family best navigate these times of constant change and transition by solidifying even stronger relationships and connections, click here.
Illinois 5Essentials Survey | Now Open!
Student Survey (Grades 4-8 ONLY)
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is being administered at your child’s school. To review the questions, click here.
If your child has not taken the survey yet at school and you do not want them to participate, fill out the information at the bottom of this form (linked here) and ask your child to return this sheet to their teacher.
Parent Survey
Please participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Parent Survey, as a part of the Illinois 5Essentials Survey administration. The survey responses will never be connected to the identity of you or your child as school reports will only present aggregated information of how parents responded as a whole. In order for the survey report to be generated we need at least 20 percent of our parents to take the survey.
Please CLICK HERE to take the parent survey. It is open now through March 11.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact 5Essentials Customer Support at 1-866-440-1874 or 5essentials@uchicago.edu.
D25 Features
This District 25 Alumna discovered her heart problems in the 5th grade with the help of one of our teachers. Years later, she’s back at Greenbrier to share her story and inspire everyone to stay healthy and participate in the Kids Heart Challenge!
FROM THE COMMUNITY
Pack the Piggies Fun-raiser
Are you ready to Pack the Piggies? The Arlington Heights Council of PTA (AHC-PTA) funds $11k worth of scholarships each year. The scholarships are divided into $10k for graduating D214 seniors, and $1k given to D25 elementary students. This March, the AHC-PTA will be initiating our first ever “Pack the Piggies” fun-raiser across the district to help raise funds for the scholarships.
The contest begins March 14th and goes through March 17th. Each school will have a goal of raising $1k. If the goal is attained by a school, they win its predetermined prize chosen by the principal. Some schools will silly string or slime a staff member, while another school’s prize will be to have the principals work from the rooftop! Please help your students reach their goal by having them bring in coins, cash, or checks to pack their school’s piggy!
Contact Jody Schaaf with any questions at jawariek@gmail.com.
Let’s have some fun for a great cause!
TO THE COMMUNITY
Teacher Tuesday!
This week’s #TeacherTuesday is Meghan Dubs who works as a Special Education Resource teacher at Dryden.
New Teacher Tuesday is a way for our community to meet our new District 25 teachers and staff. We'll be highlighting more teachers all year long, so make sure to follow us on Instagram to see who will be featured next!
Battle of the Books
Congratulations go out to the ‘Dog Lovers’ who won the 2021-2022 Battle of the Books competition!
Our Cardinals joined our Timberwolves in the first ever In-person Battle of the Book competition at D25. The competition has been held virtually for the past two years.
Each team worked together to solve the questions by brainstorming quietly amongst themselves. The catch? They had to agree on an answer before the timer went off!

Huskies Visit the Owl's Nest
Hersey’s Basketball team assisted our Olive Owls by reading some unBALLievably cool books!
Then stayed after for some recess fun!
