From School Counseling....
Additionally, 4th quarter means lots of testing! You will soon be receiving an email from Ms. Draisey with all testing dates and locations. Please keep in mind - an absence on AP test day can NOT be rescheduled. So do not plan anything that may take your child out of school when they should be testing.

- Seniors please pay attention to all you have coming up and all the deadlines. We don't want you to fall behind or miss anything.
- Juniors - double check your graduation requirements check sheet in Phoenix and make sure your course requests line up with what you need for graduation. Rest assured your counselors are checking this as well but ultimately the responsibility falls with you.

- ALL STUDENTS - if you are serving our community and performing volunteer service, be sure you are logging your hours on the school's website.

Society of Women Engineers at UVA
Register now
Event Date: Saturday April 9, 2022
Application Due: Friday March 11, 2022
Admissions Sent: Monday March 14, 2022
What
Every fall and spring, high school students from all over Virginia visit UVA to experience what it's like to be an engineering student at UVA. They spend the day taking part in lab tours, majors fair, design activities, and a professional panel. These events give the students a look at the different engineering fields as well as the engineering design process, and can help the students decide if they would like to pursue STEM in the future.
While we have previously held HSV virtually due to Covid-19, 2022 HSV is planned to be an in-person event with precautions in place. However, SWE @ UVA is monitoring the situation, and it is possible that 2022 HSV will be moved online. If this is the case, we will notify applicants prior to March 25, 2022.
Who
The Spring session is geared towards towards young women (cis and trans) and nonbinary students who are high school juniors and sophomores.
The Fall session of the program is mainly geared towards students in their senior year of high school, but juniors and sophomores are welcome as well.
Students who have previously applied to HSV, are in the targeted grade level, and demonstrate a strong interest in engineering in their short answer responses will receive priority acceptance due to space limitations.

If you have further questions, please contact us at uvaswehsv@gmail.com.

College Ambassador Program
- Do you want to help the next round of Lightridge Seniors - Class of 2023 - explore their college options?
- Answer questions about the college application process?
- Talk about your college/university?
- Share your experience with selecting the right school for you?
If you answered yes to any of the above, then please consider joining CAP.
The goal of the College Ambassador Program (CAP) is to help Lightridge high school students connect with current college students, known as the Ambassadors.
This is a resource for LHS students to learn more about a college from a LHS alum through online messaging platforms and/or in person meet-ups on campus. Reaching out to a current student at your college of interest is a great resource for learning about the student life, and asking questions you may have about the school.
LHS students interested in reaching out to an Ambassador will be able to access the CAP website on the LHS counseling page. This page will list all of the Ambassadors as well as a brief description of the school they attend, their major, and activities they are involved in. If there is an Ambassador you would like to reach out to, you must see your counselor to receive the Ambassador’s contact information.
*Commitment to this program includes: attending a couple of meetings to discuss the foundation and goals of this program and providing basic information about yourself and your plans in college (name, picture, school, major, activities, etc.) for your profile on the CAP website along with a method of communication for LHS students to reach out to you in college. >>>If an LHS student were to reach out to you, you are expected to communicate with them- answer their questions, talk to them about your school, and maybe even show them around campus if they visit.
If you are interested or have questions, contact Mrs. Scheivert in the Career Center.
Admit, Deny or Waitlist...... Be sure to update your Naviance account
Still unsure about your next step after graduation?
Take a step towards federal employment, learn transferable skills, and make a difference when it matters most.
AmeriCorps NCCC and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) partnered to create FEMA Corps so people like you can help communities prepare for and respond to disasters. FEMA Corps can help you get a foot in the door to work for the federal government and gain experience in the emergency management sector. You and your team are deployed wherever the need is the greatest, which means you may travel across the country several times or remain in one location for the duration of your service. Projects vary, but all FEMA Corps members are trained in one or more of FEMA's mission-critical functions: disaster survivor assistance, individual assistance, logistics, planning/geographic information system, and public assistance.
If you choose to serve as an AmeriCorps NCCC member in the FEMA Corps program, your term will last 11 months to serve as a Corps Member and 12 months to serve as a Team Leader. You must be 18-26* at the start of your service term to serve as a Corps Member. You’ll need to be at least 18 years old upon arrival to serve at a Team Leader (there is no upper age limit to serve as a Team Leader and you do not need prior NCCC experience to serve in this role). As a Corps Member, you'll serve under the direction of one Team Leader and complete the service term living and serving together as a team. As a Team Leader, you'll lead a team Corps Members. Both Corps Members and Team Leaders will train in one or more of FEMA's mission-critical functions including disaster survivor assistance, logistics, and public assistance.
