IAD: American Sign Language Program
Community-Based American Sign Language Instructor
Essential Functions of Position: Duties and responsibilities include teaching a full-range community courses in American Sign Language, which may range from beginning to advanced communication skills and include elements of deaf culture, teaching a wide range of students, and participating in department activities. Duties may include assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and off-campus.
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree and six months of ASL instruction experience; OR an associate’s degree and 2 years of appropriate ASL instruction experience; OR the equivalent education and/or experience.
Desirable Qualifications: Additional selection criteria include a master’s degree in American Sign Language; a bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language; teaching experience; experience teaching elementary aged students; knowledge and awareness of deaf culture in the United States; other professional experience with American Sign Language; preparation for and interest in community students; demonstrated ability to interact effectively with persons of diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds; experience working with students of various cultural backgrounds; related work and professional experience.
Salary: Is in accordance with IADemy guidelines.
