The Walden Weekly
School News You Can Use - Sept. 30, 2022
Dear Walden Families,
As we approach the month of October, there may only be one thing on children's minds... HALLOWEEN! This is an exciting time of year for students due to the approaching excitement of dressing up, trick-or-treating, and having lots of fun at school! We will be celebrating in school on Monday, October 31st. Students will bring their costumes to school and change into them after lunchtime. We will have an outdoor parade (weather permitting) and enjoy our fun classroom parties with parent volunteers! The parade start time will be shared soon since our families are invited to attend!
We ask that all students follow our school rule of NO GROUP COSTUMES. This causes issues every year where students feel excluded from other peers planning together and leaving other peers out. Even when the idea is shared wide-spread, students aren't always comfortable joining the group. Feel free to save those group costumes for trick-or-treating and allow your child to show off their individuality with a costume that is all their own at school! Thank you for your cooperation.
We also ask that students do not bring weapons of any kind or wear costumes with bloody guts and gore. Please reach out with any questions and thank you in advance for your partnership in ensuring a fun, safe, and happy Halloween for all!

TrueNorth Survey - Lend Your Voice!
Our school district is a member of the TrueNorth Educational Cooperative 804. TrueNorth provides a wide variety of services, from professional consultation for our staff to alternative school placements for our students. TrueNorth is developing a new strategic plan; as part of the process, they are looking for input from many groups. You are an important TrueNorth stakeholder and your opinions and experiences are valuable. This information will assist our district and TrueNorth in better meeting the needs of your children. Please participate in the TrueNorth strategic planning process by completing this survey: https://hyasurvey.com/TrueNorth. The survey is open through Sunday.
The survey data is an important component of the strategic planning process and will be used, along with other data components, to develop the plan.
Social Emotional Learning Survey (2nd Posting)
Building students’ social-emotional learning (SEL) skills is important at Walden School. As a part of the learning process, we will be asking our 3rd-5th grade students to reflect on their own SEL mindsets via an online survey. The survey will be administered between October 3rd and 14th, and it should take no more than 20 minutes to complete. It asks students to self-reflect on their own grit, growth mindset, self-efficacy, self-management, social awareness, emotional regulation, supportive relationships, sense of belonging, and engagement at school.
Individual student responses can provide the school and family with insight into what skills the child self-identifies as strengths and others they would like to develop. The overall data helps us (the educators) identify priorities and provide targeted learning opportunities to address the SEL needs in our classrooms.
Per policy, if you would like your child to opt out of taking the survey, please contact me no later than October 1st.
