A Message for Mr. K's Grade 7 Band Students
MORNING SECTIONALS:
Sectionals are rehearsals for a particular group of instruments to allow more specific instruction for that instrument. I schedule sectionals for wind band students new to their instrument because in the first year of learning a band instrument there are so many technical, instrument specific hurdles to overcome to enable music making. It is VERY challenging to help beginning band students adequately when there are so many of them playing so many different instruments at one time. Sectionals start THIS WEEK (Sept. 23, 24) and will continue until the end of November (Nov. 24, 25). They will resume on January 26, 27 and will finish for the year just before Spring Break (March 9, 10).
This year’s WEEKLY sectional schedule is:
WEDNESDAYS, 8:15am - Reeds (clarinets, saxes)
THURSDAYS, 8:15am - Brasses (Trumpet, Trombone)
Flutes and percussion will have sectionals at recesses on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
If your child has elected to play clarinet, sax, trumpet, or trombone, please have them at school by 8:15 on the applicable weekday. Sectionals will be in the Music Room. Students should be in the music room by the above time; dropping off a couple of minutes before 8:15am will help this.
I appreciate that It can be problematic for some families to fit this into the applicable morning. Students that miss sectional practices will make them up at recess. Thanks for your support - these instrument specific rehearsals are a very important way to help the students be successful.
Thank you,
Mr. K.
