The Falcon Flyer

Weekly News and Updates - Volume 2 Issue 14 - 12/3/21

Winter (Break) Is Coming

Welcome back Falcons! We hope you and yours had a restful and relaxing week to recharge for the quick month of December. This week we wrapped up our five weeks of Art Reach with a final pastels project and students took home the stuffed animals they created back at the beginning. This spring, we'll be hosting Art Reach again to work on a mural project. Stay tuned for more details on that!

If how quickly this week flew by is any indication of how these next two weeks will go, it's going to be Winter Break before we know it. During this time our 4th and 5th grade teachers, Ms. Wee and Mrs. Sperry, are developing a leadership program for our upper grade students called "Falcon Influencers". Students will apply for specific leadership responsibilities and interview with Principal Friedenberg. The Falcon Influencers team will launch in early 2022.

One quick reminder- Friday, December 17th, is a minimum day. Please plan to pick your student up at 12:00PM.

Running Club Update

Our Falcons are FLYING! (Running- that is) So far this year, they've circled the back field more than 7,829 times! That's the equivalent of 1,738 miles. For reference, if you drove 1,738 miles east, you'd end up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Currently, the 2nd and 4th grade classes are neck and neck with 409 and 439 miles respectively. 5th grade isn't far behind with 317 total miles. Let's keep those feet moving! Great job Falcons.

COVID Vaccines Available Now for School Aged Children

San Diego Unified has partnered with UCSD Mobile Vaccine Van, Sharp Healthcare, community based clinics, and created School-based Health Centers to make it as easy as possible for your child to receive a COVID vaccine. These have received FDA Emergency Use Authorization for all children aged five and older. At this point, only students age 16 and up are required to be fully vaccinated prior to January 24th. For more information about the location of the vaccine clinics and the mandate for older students, please visit:

Student of the Week - Stephen!

This week's Student of the Week is Stephen in Mrs. Yamashita's Kindergarten class! He is recognized for being outgoing and very friendly. Stephen excels at reading, and especially likes "Time Magazine for Kids". He displays excellent handwriting and uses critical thinking skills to problem solve during math explorations and STEAM. Mrs. Yamashita notes he love to plan, design (using blueprints), and construct with Legos, always thinking outside of the box. Congratulations Stephen and thanks for being a phenomenal falcon!

Report an Absence Online

Although we want students to be in school each day for class, we know that absences will happen. It is important that parents report their student's absence within 24 hours. Absences can be reported via our online form, phone or email. Please let us know if you have any questions and thank you for your support.

San Diego Unified School District now has a new testing site for all students and staff. If your student is showing symptoms at home or at school, this new resource will provide a quick and easy way to get test results so they can return to school as soon as possible. Testing will now be available at the Education Center located at 4100 Normal Street, 92103. It's only FIVE MILES away from Fletcher!

The site is open from 7:00AM - 7:00PM MONDAY through FRIDAY and 8:00AM - 5:00PM on Saturday and Sunday. No appointments necessary! Prior to testing, if your student isn't already registered to receive weekly testing on site, families will need to register for a Primary Health Portal account.
