DECA
It is closely tied to marketing and business classes. What students learn in class will help them in the DECA activities and competitions. Students are STRONGLY encouraged to become involved with DECA while taking marketing classes. Not only will the student enhance their leadership skills, but they will also become active in the community, compete at local, state, & international competitions, & also increase their confidence in social situations. DECA’s mission is to prepare emerging leaders & entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, & management.
Materials
The dividers should be labeled: Notes, Handouts/Wks, and Assignments. They can be dividers you buy at the store or just colored paper that separate each section. When we work on something or you have an assignment, I will let you know what section it should go in.
It is best if you use loose leaf notebook paper rather than a spiral notebook for your notes. This allows you to organize them a little bit better.
**Please let me know if you need help acquiring these materials. I have extra binders and lots of colored paper.
Expectations
We follow the Golden Rule in Marketing…which is “Treat others the way you would like to be treated.” I expect my students to treat me and their classmates the same way I will treat them- with respect.
1. Obey all classroom and school building rules.
2. Read and complete all assigned work. Utilize classroom time.
3. Take class notes and organize them in a three ring binder used only for marketing class.
4. Actively participate in class discussions and presentations.
5. Meet all homework and project deadlines.
*Late work policy: If you are not prepared to turn in an assignment the day it is due, it will be 10% off your grade per day until you reach 50%. All missing work for the unit MUST be turned in before the unit assessments. If you do not complete or turn in a summative assessment such as a unit test or project, you will be assigned T/TR/Saturday school to complete the assignment.
6. Conduct yourself in an orderly and professional manner.
7. Be responsible for all makeup work.
Consult the large assignment sheet to see if you missed anything that will be turned in with your binder. Missing notes sheets, worksheets, and assignments will be placed in the bin at the front of the classroom.
8. Be on time to class.
TARDY POLICY: 2nd tardy- parent contact, 3rd tardy- 30 minute detention, 4th tardy and more- referral to administrator
9. Have fun!
Assessments and Assignments
70% summative- Tests, quizzes, projects, and roleplays
30% formative-Binder grades, article reviews, in class assignments, homework, short quizzes, article reviews
A large part of your formative grade will be your binder grade. This averages between 50-150 points per checkpoint. You will organize your daily work and assignments in your binder and turn these in at the end of each unit. This also means that you will have less daily work to turn in but a larger grade combined in one.
Cell Phone/Earbud/Electronic Policy
Cell phones may be out if we are using them in class or if you are finished with all work during independent time.
Cell phones may NOT be out during direct instruction (teacher lectures, notes, powerpoints), discussions, partner/group work time, guest speakers, videos, presentations, or anytime Mrs. Janssen says.
You will be given one warning to put your cell phone away and then it will be placed on my desk. Continuous interruptions for using cell phones or ear buds will result in detention or referrals.
Earbuds may only be out to be used for special projects in class or during independent work time. ONE ear bud may be in during independent work time. No other time should ear buds be in ears.
Charging your phone or other electronic devices is NOT allowed.
