Week 11 Term 1 Panui
Monday/Rāhina - 11th April 2022
Principal Message
Kia ora koutou Witherlea whānau,
It is with a real sense of pride that we have come to the end of Term 1 and the school has navigated one of our toughest terms in the last couple of years, staying open, providing learning packs for our students isolating and that all our staff and students who have tested positive are on the mend.
We know it is not the end by any means however we do know that all the effort wearing masks each day from our Year 4-6 teachers and students, all the following of our guidelines by our community, our wonderful ventilation system and systems have ensured that our school has carried on through Omicron.
We head into the holiday break knowing that next term our school gates will open and we will be able to hold our Mihi Whakatau Welcome for our new students (we will ensure ALL students and staff from Term 1 are welcomed too). We have our Annual Matariki Hikoi and Hui, open classes (at Orange Light) and our whole school Cross Country. Our Choir and Kapa Haka start up again and we look forward to getting to Orange Light as a whole school, Witherlea Community and country.
Thank you for all you have done over the past 2 years and this term in particular. Social distancing, mask-wearing, scanning, dropping your children off at the gate, parent-teacher interviews over the phone and the myriad of cancelled events have taken their toll on schools and communities. However, every time we see you, either at the gate or in passing it is positive. You have remained positive through it all and we cannot thank you enough. This has taken a huge load off our shoulders so that we could concentrate on the basics.
Every class throughout our school has done just that, ensuring we got the basics right. Control the controllable's and that is the remarkable teaching and learning that has occurred during Term One with the focus on the Pillar = Belonging.
We have completed;
- Ride-On for most of Year 4-6 (Room 17 to finish this next term)
- Cricket Smash Tournament
- Rippa In-School Tournament
- EPro8 Heats in school for all Year 5-6 students
- Parent-Teacher Interviews (via phone)
- Ferns Six Week Hui (onsite)
- Aquatics for the entire term (due to our new pool heating system)
- Food Bank Charity Day
- Reports ready to go home
All this while in Red Light setting. We are extremely grateful to work at Witherlea, to support the type of learners we have. We thank you for sending the BEST children you can each day.
From our whole school team; stay safe during the holiday break, COVID free if possible and enjoy the time with your wonderful children.
Ngā manaakitanga,
Andrea Harnett - Tumuaki
EPro8 @ Witherlea
Ms Green, who delivers our Release for the teachers - has supported all students in Year 5-6 with some basics of EPro8 using the kits we purchased last year. We have since upgraded to include the Electronics kits too. The students LOVE the hands-on learning that this provides and they use all the creativity they have plus teamwork and collaboration skills to complete tasks and gain points.
Last week, thanks to the Kauri teachers and Ms Green the In-School Heats took place and then the FINALS were held on Friday = see the photos of our students.
The Top 3 teams will represent the school at the Bohally Heats next term. Last year we made it all the way to the finals in Nelson!

Welcome to Witherlea School
We wish to welcome these new students and their families and whānau to our school and community;
