Character Books

Our "compassion" study ends on Friday, December 18. After you read the character book aloud on the 18th, please send it to the office. We will put a "Motivation/Hardworking" book in your mailbox for January 5 sometime over the winter break.

It's That Time of Year

It's that time of year when kids are excited and we are tired. It is worth your time to take a few extra minutes to review expectations throughout each day between now and winter break. When you line up to leave the room, discuss expectations in the hallway.....when you are heading to the playground- discuss playground expectations. Consistency is important. Continue with your usual high expectations!

Students who transfer out of North School

We don't have a lot of students who transfer out of North School in the middle of quarters, however, we have had a couple in the last few weeks. Carey cannot drop the student and send records until grades have been entered. This includes work habits and social skills, rubric scores and letter grades for classroom teachers AND special class teachers. We have found that for some kids you can post the letter grades and for others, you cannot. If you are unable to post the letter grade, let Carey know that you have all of the grades entered and she can do the final posting of letter grades. It is important that classroom teachers and special class teachers post everything right away once you get that email from Carey. The receiving school is waiting for records. Please respond to the email that Carey sends you stating that a student has transferred out when you have completed your postings. (Don't forget work habits and study skills too!) Thanks!

Computer Lab Closures in December

The computer lab will be closed on the following dates and times in order for third grade to complete the Classroom Diagnostic Tests:

During the week of December 7 (Monday through Thursday)

The lab will be closed during the following times: 8:00-11:00 am

*The test may have to be broken down. If the lab is closed in the afternoon as well on any particular day, you will receive an email from Julie Stoehr. Third grade teachers, if you find you are in need of the lab in the afternoon, please be sure to tell Julie, when you leave the lab after morning testing.

During the week of December 14 (Monday through Thursday)

The lab will be closed during the following times: 8:00-11:00 am

*The test may have to be broken down. If the lab is closed in the afternoon as well on any particular day, you will receive an email from Julie Stoehr. Third grade teachers, if you find you are in need of the lab in the afternoon, please be sure to tell Julie, when you leave the lab after morning testing.

Resource Schedule

Jennifer Roling is heavily involved in helping with the Classroom Diagnostic Testing. Her schedule between November 30 and December 17 may be different. Thank you for being flexible!

December Service Project

If you are interested in having your students create Christmas cards for the residents of the local nursing homes, please give them to Amy Backes by the morning of December 21. Don't forget our one card that read..."I hope you don't die!" Be sure to check them to be sure they are appropriate! Thanks!

Grading Window

The Second Quarter Grading window opens on Friday, December 18 at 7:00 am. Think about spending a little time that weekend or Monday (the 21st) after school to complete your second quarter grade cards....that way you can take a WINTER BREAK! The grade card window closes on Wednesday, January 6 at 7:00am. Please let Carey know when you are finished posting grades (special class too). She can start printing grade cards when she knows everything is ready and this gives you more time to look them over for errors while the window is still open!

Winter Breakfast

Our Winter Breakfast will be held on Tuesday morning, December 22 from 8:00-8:45 am. It's time to start thinking about a parent in your class who will organize or assist you in planning the breakfast.

Please be aware of the activities planned for your classroom. The idea is that it is a winter party so that all students can participate. Be sure to communicate with your families of students with religious exception to holiday parties to ensure activities that might be planned are not objectionable to them.

Following the breakfast you should plan to have "read in" type of activities. We will have shortened special class and lunch in the rooms with dismissal to begin at noon.

SRI Testing

Just a reminder that ALL students in grades 1-5 must take the SRI during the district test window which is the first three weeks of the second semester. Everyone should plan to give the SRI sometime between January 5 and January 22, 2016.

Things to know or do before Christmas Break

  • Clean the filters in your projectors!
  • The second quarter grade card window is open beginning at 7:00 am on Friday, December 18 and closes at 7:00 am on Wednesday, January 6.
  • Monday, January 4 is our Professional Development Day. We will meet in the library to get organized at 8:00 am. I will have something for breakfast available at about 7:45 am in the lounge. We may need to start with some ICLE data from our surveys, but I will learn more about that next week. I'd also like to show grades 3-5 the data from the CDT tests we are giving. Otherwise...we are going to continue to match our instruction with the standards!
  • I will send a newsletter out over the break with information about the week of January 4.
  • Brag Tag information will be put in your mailbox over the holiday break. The end of the quarter is December 22.

Reminders

  • Weekly entries should be made into Infinite Campus in each subject area.
  • Be sure to keep your websites up-to-date!
  • I would like copies of all classroom newsletters. These can be sent to me electronically or a paper copy in my mailbox.
  • Please continue to use the clip up tickets, Safe, Respectful, and Responsible Compliment cards (or verbal compliments) keeping the 4:1 in mind!
