The College Place will be hosting a free virtual workshop, "The Common App Demo," which will include a full walk-through of the Common App platform from a student's perspective. Click the link to join the zoom meeting.

September 18 / 10:00am-12:00pm

Join College Application Program for a FREE virtual presentation by Tomika Brown from The College Place. The topic will be "Understanding FAFSA and the Financial Aid Process." Each month a new topic will be covered. There will be time at the end for questions and answers. Seniors have priority, but all high school students are welcome!

September 19 & 20, virtual College Fair with colleges from all over the US and world, Sunday from 3:00pm-6:45pm, Monday from 5:00pm-7:45pm

September 27 / 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Prince William County College Fair @ Woodbridge HS. No pre-registration required. Open to all grades 9-12.

Military recruiters are now on campus during all lunches in the commons to answer questions about their branches.

Admissions representatives from colleges around the area visit Hylton High School during the school day. Juniors and Seniors who may be interested in attending one of these colleges are encouraged to sign up to hear them talk about their programs. Registration is required in Naviance. Paying for College!!

The State Council for Higher Education in Virginia has a wonderful website, "Paying for College," dedicated to helping Virginians navigate the multiple ways to make higher education more affordable. College Board also explains Scholarships & Grants. There are several scholarship search sites on the web. You will have to provide some personal information in order for the search engine to be effective, but be careful! Not all search sites are legitimate. There are many scholarships listed in Naviance, but here are some others known to be legitimate:

Internships & Apprenticeships

Internships are a great way to gain work experience and/or learn a new skill or trade. Internships are generally for a limited amount of time, such as a summer break. Some internships are paid and many are not. To find out more, visit

Apprenticeships are an opportunity to receive paid, on-the-job training from highly skilled experts in a career or technical career field where employers develop and prepare their future workforce. Individuals gain paid work experience, classroom instruction, and often receive a portable, nationally-recognized credential. Please use the links below to view many apprenticeship opportunities.
