Weekly Update- September 7, 2018

Week at a Glance

Reading- This week I started BAS testing to determine student reading levels. As soon as I'm finished with those we will begin guided reading groups. While I've been testing students your child has enjoyed independent reading time with books of their choice. I also introduced students to NewsELA this week.

Writing- We started our Informational Writing unit this week and students are excited to experts and teachers.

Math- Students are loving math workplaces, which are games that reinforce the math skills we've been learning. We have now incorporated 4 games that students can choose from. This week we focused on subtraction and discussed equality.

Science/Social Studies- Next week we will focus on our community social studies standards through kindness week. We have many activities planned that focus on the concept of beging kind to others. We also have shirts for the students.

Student Agendas

This week I sent home student agendas. I did not keep them here at school because our homework is the same every week, however, I would encourage you to use these at home.

As explained at curriculum night, homework will come home every Friday and be due the following Friday. You can use the agenda to plan with your child which day of the week they will complete each assignment. This will help them better understand time management and planning ahead, and will prepare them for 4th grade.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this topic.

Picture Day

Picture day will be Sept 13th. You can order pictures online or fill out the order form that came home last week.
