Celebrate Education Week 2016
October 9th – 13th
Celebrate Education Week is an opportunity to visit your child’s classroom and watch your children in action as they learn something new, participate in a curricular activity, or give a special presentation for visitors. This year, Central Bucks invites you to join us the week of October 9-13, 2017.
We invite you to come and join us, remembering that this is an “adults only” visit as small children may disrupt instruction during this time. The chart below provides target times to come and visit so that we may concentrate efforts, and accommodate parking, traffic flow, etc. If you are unable to join us on the dates and times listed, please note that you are more than welcome to visit anytime during the week.
The schedule for Bridge Valley Celebrate Education Week is as follows:
Parenting Toolbox
Welcome Back Bridge Valley Families! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Amy Wine, and I am the School Psychologist in the building. I have the privilege of getting to know students in every grade and watching them grow and change throughout the years.
Each year, we look forward to the learning opportunities and challenges that arise at Bridge Valley. I use the word “challenges” in a positive way, as they are necessary to help us problem-solve, grow and build new skills. One challenge that I have faced as a parent and as a school psychologist is setting healthy routines from the get-go. Going from the laid-back summer days, to the hectic, minute-to-minute action of the school day, followed by activities, dinner and homework, can be shocking and overwhelming to both parents and children alike, resulting in a lot of stress and strife.
Setting routines and expectations early in the year can be beneficial in reducing stress for parents and students. Allowing your child an opportunity to develop the routine with you, may help them stick to it. For example, for some families, the routine is that homework is completed immediately after school. For others, homework is done after dinner and extra-curricular activities. There is no right or wrong way, as long as it works for your family. I made the mistake of setting the rule that my daughter must complete her homework when she gets home from school. I was met with a lot of resistance, which led to arguing. When I finally understood that it worked better for her to complete her work after dinner, she was much less resistant and our evenings became much easier.
When setting routines, make sure to include reasonable mealtimes and bedtimes. The American Academic of Pediatrics recommends 9 to 12 hours of sleep for children ages 6-12, and 8 to 10 hours for children ages 13 and up. Lack of nutritious meals and sleep can lead to difficulties with attention and focus, difficulty with learning, and mood and behavioral disorders.
If you need any assistance with changing or building routines, and how to get your child to “buy-in”, feel free to reach out. I’d welcome the opportunity to get to know your family, and to help you start the year on a positive note.
Fire Safety Awarness Week
The week of October 9th- 13th is Bridge Valley’s Fire Safety Awareness Week. On Tuesday, October 10th, the Warwick Volunteer Fire Company and the Lingohocken Fire Company Simulation Trailer will visit Bridge Valley to teach our children fire safety techniques.
Students in grades K-6 will participate in a half hour “assembly.” Students in grades K-3 will have the opportunity to view the fire truck. In addition, students in grades 4-6 will visit the Fire Safety Trailer, participating in a two way out evacuation drill.

If it is raining, the parade will be canceled.
Classroom parties will be held in the afternoon. Only those volunteers, who have been selected to assist with this event, will be permitted in the classrooms.
