NES Notes Home

We are Kind, We are Learners, We are Leaders

December 13, 2021

Note from the Principal

Hello NES Families,

We look forward to a fun-filled week ahead. Here's a few reminders:

We will be sending student report cards home on Tuesday, December 14th. We were supposed to send these home prior to student/family/teacher conferences, but then the flood changed our plans. We will send them home in student NV folders in an envelope. Please sign and return the envelope to school so we know you received it. We do not yet know if we can reschedule conferences, but please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher at any time.

Spirit week will be Tuesday-Friday. See the dress up days below. Please use what you have at home and do not feel the need to buy anything. The intent is light-hearted fun for kids, so just enjoy and improvise.

Winter Break is December 20th- January 2nd. School resumes Monday, January 3rd.

Have a wonderful week and thank you for all you do to support your children and our school.

Sincerely,

Katie Brown

What is "Woyaya?"

Your student(s) may be saying or singing the "Woyaya" song this week. It is a song that originates from the country of Ghana. Woyaya means "we are better together" or "we go together." Our elementary Music teachers chose this song for students to express how grateful and happy we are that Sumas Elementary students and staff have safely joined Nooksack, Everson, and our Middle School. This experience will help all of us become a stronger community. Students will be singing together Friday on ZOOM across all of our schools.

Kindergarten Gingerbread Cookie Escape!

We hope your student(s) came home last Friday excited to share about the Gingerbread Escape. It's such a joyful tradition here at NES. This year we got to include our new Sumas Kinder students as well! All of our students in 1st-5th grade also get to help out by giving directions to the Kinders:

"Are they little?"

"Do they run really fast?"

"Do they have candy all over them?"

"Do they smell delicious?"

They went THAT way! ...

The cookies are found in the office where they had to talk to the principal about following our school rules and not running in the halls. Here are some pictures...

Picking Students Up From School

Please call the office if your student has a change in transportation the day-of. Teachers appreciate close communication with families, especially now that we have Remind, but please don't rely on teachers to check their Remind messages for day-of changes. Calling the office is the best bet to make sure we get students where they need to go.

Parent do not start arriving for student pick-up at until 3:00pm at the end of day. Our last recess of the day ends at 2:45pm and we want to make sure they can walk in safely. We will be closing our school gate each day until 2:50pm. This will ensure all students are safely inside. Thank you!
