Extra Summer Reading (Lectura extra de verano)
Keep your child reading and learning all summer long! In addition to choice reading and books selected by your student, we are excited to promote additional reading for your student this summer. Every two weeks we will send you a high interest nonfiction text for your student to read. These texts can be read on a tablet, computer device, or printed to be read in a non-digital format. Each text comes with reading comprehension questions. Your student can answer the questions and check their answers, too!
Quick Tips:
Read the articles together.
Ask your student questions as they read.
Encourage your student to pause, connect, and reflect on their reading.
If you have siblings in your household, encourage them to read and answer questions together.
Reading For This Week (Leyendo para esta semana)
Is your summer reading off to a running start? We hope so!
This week’s topic: running. The fastest animal in the world is the cheetah, but have you ever wondered how fast a human can run? This week you’ll discover how fast a human can actually run, and once you’re done reading, make sure to watch the fastest 7-year-old and Usain Bolt (one of the fastest men in the world) “race” a cheetah!
Quick Tips:
After your student finishes reading, ask them to verbally summarize what they read in five sentences or less.
Other questions your student can ask and answer:
How does this relate to me?
How does this idea relate to other ideas in the text?
How does this relate to the world?
