Most of the immigrants that went threw Ellis Island was from eastern and western Europe. The reason why a lot came was to escape poverty and religious reasons. The Begging of their journey started by walking to the coast and boarding the steamships. There are three classes the first class second and the steerage. steerage means a open place at the bottom of the ship. It was hard because there was a bunch of different immigrants about 3,000.

Most immigrants went threw New York Harbor. But a lot went to different states steamships like the White Star played a big role in the immigration. Someone who is capable paying for a first or second class tickets were not become a public charge. The first and second class were disembark. The third class had to go threw inspection.
