Weekly Student and Family Newsletter
From the Principal
Dear Colts and Colt Families,
Hello Families and Students:
Despite the current wave of Omicron, we are grateful to continue to serve students in full-time, in-person school. As a reminder, masks are still required at all times while indoors. Students need to be sure to bring a mask with them to school. We recommend N95 or KN95 masks.

-Finals Bell Schedule
-Late Work Deadline

-Test to Stay

Spectators
A reminder that spectators at all extra-curricular activities have been restricted in Springfield, Bethel, and Eugene schools. Participants are allowed a specific number of spectators to attend the event. If you are not invited by a participant as one of their guests, you will not be granted admission.
Attendance
As we get closer to semester one finals, attendance is extremely important. Being in class and on-time are critical to academic success. We have had an increase in students showing up late for school, mainly in the morning and after lunch. Please take a minute to talk with your student about being at school and on-time.
There are just a few short weeks remaining in our first semester.
Finals are the week of Monday, January 31st thru Wednesday, February 2nd.
Finals Bell Schedule:
Friday, January 28th is the school-wide late work deadline. Targeted tutoring for specific subjects continues after school in the library with Tuesdays for Science, Wednesday for Math, and Thursday for English.
With the newest variant and updated guidance from the CDC and Oregon Health Authority, there are significant updates on the District’s quarantining procedures. Please see the “We Are SPS: January Newsletter” for complete details.
Quarantine: The period has been reduced to 5 days for students who test positive for Covid. If on day 6, the student is not experiencing symptoms, they may return to activities but must wear a mask when around others, even when it would otherwise be optional: example - athletics, outdoors, etc.
Test to Stay: This is an “opt-in” program. Forms should be returned to the Health Office at Thurston High School. This program allows students who are exposed to Covid at school to remain in school if they test negative on a school administered Covid test. Complete details are linked in the “We Are SPS: January Newsletter”.
Did You know that THS has a "Family Resource Center '' in room 70?
The Student and Family Resource Center a.k.a. the FRC is a one-stop-shop for resources, ranging from clothing and basic need supplies to crisis support and community referrals and resources. The goal of the FRC is to create a comfortable space where all students can feel safe, respected, supported, and enabled to focus on academics.
Currently, we offer a selection of new and gently used clothing, personal care items, food resources, and snacks. We would love to expand our offerings in all of these areas and could always use some help from our THS community.
There are several ways that you can help! Donations of laundry soap, full size bath products, pet food, diapers, wipes, hats, gloves, hoodies, and socks are in high need.
THS Family Resource Center partnered with local churches, community partners and through monetary donations had a very successful Holiday Season. We were able to provide over 55 food boxes, gifts and gift cards to families in need of a little hand-up. It is a beautiful thing when a community comes together for the greater good and I thank each and every donor for helping us reach out with dignity and respect for confidentiality!
If you have any questions, needs or are interested in donating, please free to contact Angie Roser, FRC Coordinator at THS (541) 744-5145. And students, come see me in room 70 - just off of student services.
End of the Semester Information
End of Semester
It is hard to believe that the year is almost half over. We have 14 school days left before finals week. That means we have 7 A days and 7 B days left to get missing assignments turned in and tests retaken. Your semester grade is highly important because it is when credit is awarded in high school. If your student is behind, now is a great time to have them connect with our tutoring center or their counselor. The final day to turn in any assignments is the 28th.
Final Week
Finals week will take place Monday, January 31st to Wednesday, February 2nd. During finals week we will have a unique bell schedule. We will get the new schedule out to all students and families in the upcoming weeks.
Cookies ‘N’ Cram
We will be holding our Cookies ‘N’ Cram event on the afternoon of January 27th from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is a great time for students to study for their upcoming finals. We will have teachers and cookies available in the cafeteria.
Lost and Found
During finals week, we are going to be putting out our lost and found. Over those three days, please instruct your students to stop by and pick up any item that is theirs that they have misplaced over the course of the first semester. Following the three days of finals week, all remaining items will be donated.
