Olson Outlook
Week of November 2nd
Student of the Week
e-Learning Reminders
- Students should keep their cameras on as much as possible. When cameras are on, teachers can "read' their students' facial expressions and know if they are understanding the material or have questions. Keeping cameras on allows students to see each other too. It's fun for kids to see their classmates, even if just on a screen. Did you know that the overall mood and tone of the class totally changes when there is a full screen of faces as opposed to a bunch of blank tiles?
- When students have their cameras off and are not responding to their teacher using their microphone or the chat, we don't know if they are truly in attendance. If students are not visible or responsive, we have to mark them absent and then the office will call to notify parents and ask for help getting their child back on the computer.
- YouTube videos are for after school hours. Mrs. Watson has been pulling the url history of our students who aren't visible and are not responding to their teachers and the number one distraction is YouTube.
- Microphones are sensitive and are picking up many chirping smoke detectors. Please stay safe and remember to change your smoke detector batteries today.
PTO Updates
There is a virtual PTO meeting tomorrow night, Monday, November 2nd at 7:00pm. All are welcome. Here is the Google Meet link. If you would like to join by phone, use (US) +1 908-516-4672 PIN: 813 014 911#. These will be posted in Class Dojo tomorrow as well. Hope you can join us!
You may have guessed by the Facebook pictures last week that our new basketball hoop is being installed! This was one of the PTO's gifts to the school for the 2019-2020 school year. Thank you to Building and Grounds for coming to Olson on that snowy Monday to get the first step finished. Thank you to the PTO for this fun gift! Our students will definitely enjoy using it in the future.
