Spring Break is around the corner!!!

Greetings Woodcrest Families,

We are coming up on Spring 2021!!! A lot has happened since last year’s Spring Break and I am excited for a smooth transition to third trimester this year. Please remember that there is no school Friday, March 12 through Monday, March 22. We will be excited to welcome your children back to their homerooms Tuesday, March 23.

When we return on March 23, we will be welcoming a number of friends back to in-person learning. Any family that requested a learning model change for third trimester last week, will hear from current homeroom teachers and the building today. Your child’s new homeroom teacher will connect with you soon to introduce themselves. For families whose children are already in the in-person learning model, there are no changes to your child’s homeroom teacher. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

As I have expressed in past newsletters, I am very appreciative of the ongoing partnership with you all. Over the last two weeks, I have met with families to learn more about their experience and thoughts on their child’s learning at Woodcrest. If you would like to meet, please do not hesitate to reach out. I would be more than happy to find time to connect.

Please continue to follow health and safety precautions over the break to keep your family healthy and help us keep our classrooms open for learning. Have a safe and restful week. We will see you on Tuesday, March 23.

Gratefully,

John Franke

CDC travel recommendations

For families planning to do any traveling during Spring Break, please be aware that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has posted guidance travel during the pandemic. Visit their Travel During COVID-19 and After You Travel webpages for the latest information. When we return from spring break, our schools will continue to follow health and safety mitigation strategies. We appreciate all members of our school community taking precautions to help us keep our classrooms open for learning.

Importance of safe mask wearing

As students return from Spring Break Tuesday, March 23, more students at all grade levels will be learning at school five days per week. It is important that all students continue to wear their face mask properly in school buildings to protect others as well as themselves.

Face mask tips from Becca Williams, SLP Lead Health Nurse

  • Face masks/coverings should comfortably cover the nose, mouth and chin
  • There should be no gaps on the sides of the face mask
  • Face masks should stay in place without needing to be adjusted frequently
  • As we head into muddy Minnesota spring, it is a good idea to pack an extra face mask

For more information on how to properly wear a mask, check out this helpful one-page document.

Social-Emotional Read-A-Thon!

The past few weeks we have been engaging in a Social-Emotional Read-a-Thon! Each day, classes engage in a NEW book which provides lessons on social-emotional topics (interrupting, proper play and emotions).

As we conclude this Social-Emotional Read-a-thon, we wanted to let you know that every student in the school will receive a copy of "The Interrupting Chicken" and "Ruby Finds a Worry" completely free! This was all possible thanks to all the parent contributions that we received. Thank you so much for contributing to such a wonderful cause!

We also wanted to send a big thank you to our PTO who provided us the grant money to make our very first Social-Emotional Read-a-thon a success! Thanks to this, our Learning Lab now has over 80+ new book titles with social-emotional topics. Here is some of the fun that has been occurring.
