Learning with LEGO
Tool or Toy? A Workshop for K-5 Teachers
Do you want your students to experience hands-on learning through robotics and engineering in 2016-2017? Are you wondering what the STEM craze is all about? How can teachers use LEGO as a learning tool, and not just a toy for inside recess? How can we grow the robotics initiative we’ve already started in our school? If you identify with one or more of these questions, we invite you to join us for a day of learning and play!
Session goals include learning how to:
1. Launch a robotics initiative at your school this year.
2. Enrich curriculum in STEM content areas with LEGO Education tools.
3. Use the Engineering Design Process to help students create, imagine, and innovate
across the curriculum.
The SIEC is excited to host Brandy Frady and Lori Burch for this professional learning
session. They are NSWC Crane STEM Curriculum and Instructional Specialists. They will
lead participants through the "how" of using the LEGO Education tools – including Story
Starters, WeDo robotics, and EV3 Mindstorm® robots – to engage students in a cross-
curricular, hands-on learning environment. This session will prove to be fun and adaptable to your needs as a classroom leader.
