Notes from the Principal
The big news for the week is that we have our date for returning to school: October 6. Mr. Leaman sent out a late email Friday night to make the announcement. There will be more information coming soon, but I encourage you to check out both options carefully. In-person learning will not look like a traditional school and distance learning will look very different from what you’ve experienced to this point. It’s tremendously important that you weigh both options carefully to make the right choice for your student and your family. For now, the best place to find details is by reading the District RoadMap to Reopening. Click this link.
We have a few opportunities for you, as parents/guardians, to get involved with your child's education. Typically we would host classroom volunteers, but we cannot have additional people on campus this year. However, we do have some opportunities for you to get involved with the campus and decision making. Please read below for information on ELAC and Site Council. These two groups play a big role in helping determine how we spend our money and what programs we put in place to support our students. I encourage you to get involved and play an active role in your child's education.
As always, please reach out with any questions you may have! We’re here to help!
Let’s do this, Hawks!
~ Ms. Dickson

School Site Council
A School Site Council (SSC) is group of teachers, parents, administrators, and interested community members who work together to develop and monitor a school's improvement plan. It is a legally required decision-making body for any school receiving federal funds.
The California Legislature believes that the individuals who are most affected by the operation of the school should have a major role in the decisions regarding how a school functions. Education should be a joint effort of parents, teachers, administrators, and other school staff. The actions of the School Site Council are the first step in a formal process for developing improvement strategies and for allocating resources to support these efforts.
The SSC decides upon the focus of the school’s academic instructional programs and all related categorical resource expenditures for a school.
Our first meeting will be on Thursday, October 1 at 4 p.m. Meetings will be held virtually. If you are interested in being part of SSC, please contact Kellie Rafferty at krafferty@wpusd.org

The district is sponsoring this free event for families with Suzy Campbell, a highly regarded OT in the area known for working wonders for kids with difficult behaviors. Suzy will support families by helping them to create structures etc. for distance learning.
The information has been sent out by the district, but I'm including it here too. Space will be limited for the sessions, but if there is a high demand, the district will offer more.
