This week we will have a Board Game Day on Thursday, March 24th. The class earned this special time as a reward for excellent character and work! Please bring your favorite game on Thursday!

The school is collecting canned goods until March 24th.
Spring Break:
Spring Break begins March 25th and we return to school March 31st. Enjoy the time off!
Literacy
This week, we will ask, “What makes a character interesting?” First, we’ll read My Name is Gabriela, a biography of Gabriela Mistral. Gabriela is a girl who loved to read and became the first Latin American woman to win a Nobel Prize. We will also read a few poems from a collection of poetry in Poems About Reading and Writing. .
Target Vocabulary: accepted, express, fluttering, grand, pretend, prize, wonder, taught
Phonics Skills: Words with long e sound for y (sleepy); changing y to I (sleepier)
Spelling Word Principle: y as the sound of long e (pretty, happy)
No new words- just lessons in school!

We will create a How To presentation using the Adobe Voice App.
Science
Rocks and Minerals
This week, students will observe and describe the properties of 12 rocks. Students will sort the rocks according to similarities and differences they observe. Then the students will be challenged to describe and discuss the properties they used to sort the rocks. After sharing, the class will sort the rocks according to properties suggested by fellow classmates.

Chapter 8 Lesson 1
