A Note from the Principal
I look forward to seeing all of you this evening for our Parent Open House! This event is for parents in grades 1-8 only, and it is intended for parents only. I encourage you to join us in Church at 6:45 p.m. so that we can begin together in prayer as a school community, hear from Father Lane, and share some information about safety protocols we have in place.
During morning announcements, we have started to include a kindness challenge each day. In addition, several teachers are incorporating the kindness challenge into their calendar activities, class meetings, etc. It's a great way to practice kindness all year long. Several students share with me each day that they completed the challenge for the day and what they did to achieve the goal. Perhaps the conversation can continue at home as a family and over the weekend, so I am sharing the 2022-2023 Kindness Calendar for Schools with you. Our goal is to make kindness the norm!
Included in the communication folders for the oldest/only child in K-8, you will find the Income Eligibility Form for 2022-2023. This form is very important to ensure our continued participation in federal and state programs, which provide a variety of materials and services for the children, teachers, and our school. All information remains confidential. Please complete this form and return it to your child's teacher tomorrow, as well.
Grace and peace,
Ms. Diane Raguz, Principal
First Day for Kindergarten
Magazine Sale Fundraiser
Use this link to get started. Follow the prompts to create your avatar and personalized site. Then, send emails, texts, and share the news on social media to ask family and friends to support you and our group. Students who send 12 emails by Tuesday, September 6 will be entered into all three of next week's cash drawings of $100, $50, and $25. Thank you in advance for your support of this fundraiser.
Morning Arrival
- Students arriving by car are not permitted in the building until 7:40 a.m. Students are not allowed down to their classrooms until 7:45 a.m.
- Make sure your child is ready to leave your car before you stop. If you need to take some time with him or her, park in the parking lot and walk your child over to the school. No child is permitted to walk across the parking lot on his/her own.
- Remember when children are exiting your car, all should exit on the passenger side for safety reasons.
- AS YOU LEAVE, PLEASE PROCEED TO BLUE RIBBON WAY (EXITING ON WILSON MILLS) ONLY.
- Buses have the right of way. Please allow them down the driveway before your car. Often bus drivers will allow cars to go first, but never count on it!
- Give your child enough time to walk to his/her homeroom. Our suggestion is to arrive no later that 8:00 a.m. so that he/she can be in homeroom by 8:05 a.m. As the weather changes, the car rider line becomes longer and time gets later. Develop the habit of getting here with many minutes to spare!
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as the safety of all of our students is our foremost concern.
Welcome, New Faculty Members!

Playground Volunteers Needed-Grades 8, 7, 6
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:15 am-12:50 pm. There are many, many time slots open! We are so grateful for the help!
Grade 8 families are asked to volunteer in August/September, Grade 7 families in October, and Grade 6 in November.
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:10 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting the students to and from the school doors. Volunteers will be with one school staff member each day to help direct.
Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the following links to sign up: Grade 8, Grade 7, Grade 6

Girls on the Run
For girls in Grades 3-5
Girls on the Run inspires girls of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths, while building a sense of connection in a team setting. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development to enable girls to adapt to whatever comes their way. At the end of the season, the team completes a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion. Please click on this flyer for more details. Girls on the Run is so much FUN!!!!
PTO Room Captains
The PTO invites you to join the PTO Room Captain Program for your child’s classroom!
We are looking for 2 parents per classroom. This is a simple way to take part in school and PTO activities! If interested, please respond back by emailing Colleen Ockenden at CMOckenden@gmail.com or Lisa Kane at lrkane32@gmail.com by Friday, September 2nd!
PTO Room Captain Responsibilities:
Attend PTO meetings (in person or virtually if held via Zoom), they are the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7pm in the Parish Life Center. ** Don’t worry if you can’t make them all, that’s why there are 2 parents assigned per classroom**
Distribute PTO meeting minutes to the rest of the parents in the class
Be the “point person” for the teacher to contact if s/he needs something for their class
Help organize volunteers that may be needed for room and/or PTO events ( you are just the organizer… you don’t have to actually attend all of the events)
Help communicate information to the class, possibly by email or class Facebook page.
If interested, please email Colleen Ockenden at CMOckenden@gmail.com or Lisa Kane at lrkane32@gmail.com by Friday, September 2nd with the following info:

Box Tops Info
Do you shop at a grocery store or any store? Then you can help SBP out!! Box Tops are attached to certain products in many stores. When you come home from shopping you can scan your receipt in the Box Top App & earn money for our school! Take a look at this sheet to learn all about how you can help!
As a bonus you are able to use these "earnings" for SPB to let your child dress down on the 1st Monday & Tuesday of each month. Our first dress down days are Tues Sept 6th & Monday Sept 12th. Please note that this is an OPTIONAL PROGRAM. Please read this information letter on how the program works here at SPB.
Feel like you just can't earn enough scanned box tops? Families can earn DRESS DOWN passes by attending PTO & Ladies Guild meetings each month
We have yet another option available to families this year. Families may purchase a half year $10 or full year $20 dress down pass. This means you would not need to turn in a dress down pass or scanned box tops. Again this is an Optional Program! Please send cash, check (made out to SPB PTO sent c/o Grady Slife room 3A), venmo (@Jacqueline-Slife), or purchase at PTO meeting. Please notate your child(ren) names and room numbers.
