Bell Schedule Survey
The bell schedule for all Austin ISD students will change this fall because of a new state law measuring the school day in minutes instead of days. To comply with this new law, AISD must extend the elementary school day. Because of the size of our district and our transportation system, this change may affect schedules for our middle school and high school students. This may also affect how we make up bad weather days.
Your feedback is important to us!

Blueberries are small powerhouses of health and have many benefits for us.
- Maintain healthy bones- The vitamins and minerals help maintain the strength of bones.
- Lower blood pressure- The minerals in this fruit help decrease blood pressure naturally and are low in sodium which is what can increase your blood pressure.
- Fight against heart disease and help maintain blood sugar. This fruit is high in fiber, shown to help maintain blood sugar and lower your chances of heart disease. The vitamins and minerals also help you keep a healthy heart.
- Help prevent cancer: The high amounts of vitamins A and C are antioxidants which help your body reduce your cancer risk.
- Improve mental health and improve short-term memory and coordination.
- Healthy digestion and weight loss- The high amounts of fiber help you digest your food better and keep you fuller longer.

Community Meeting Regarding South Austin Magnet High School
Currently, no magnet programs exist in South Austin high schools, including Akins, Austin, Bowie, Crockett and Travis. The Liberal Arts and Science Academy, at its current location at LBJ High School, has reached capacity and district data shows that a slight majority of students are from the south Austin community.
As a result of the Trustees’ discussion at the November 9, 2015 Board Work Session, the Austin ISD administration convened a planning committee to develop proposals for a magnet in south Austin to provide students greater access to magnet programming. The planning committee is tasked with reviewing available data, establishing magnet program visions and curriculum/instruction focus, identifying elements of enrollment criteria, and soliciting community feedback.
Austin ISD is soliciting community feedback on proposals for a potential new south magnet program to provide students greater access to magnet programming. Please review the proposal blurbs and read through the proposals. Additionally, Austin ISD is hosting come-and-go community information sessions in April for community members to review proposal information and speak to committee members. The next information session is at the Mendez Middle School cafeteria from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Thursday, April 28, 2016.
