Noteworthy Notes

1. Open House Survey

I would like to say again how happy we were to have so many parents in the building last week and to really connect the foundations of our educational community. We have put together a brief survey to get some feedback on the structure and value of the evening for parents.

2. Gabriel Bol Deng Assembly

Mark your Calendar: On October 25th, Gabriel Bol Deng will be speaking here at Mill Pond at 6:30 PM open to the entire Westborough community presented by Westborough Connects. His message is one of hope and resilience about his experiences as one of the Lost Boys of Sudan. In collaboration with this event, we will be having Gabriel come to present to students that morning. We are truly excited to have him come to speak and our classrooms will be previewing and making curriculum tie-ins over the next couple of weeks. There will be more to come on this in the following weeks.

3. School Council Positions Available

Our school council has 2 parent member and 1 community member positions available. It is a great opportunity to be involved. The school council is a group of teachers, parents, and teachers that work with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs. Please email me at the address at the bottom of this Newsletter if you are interested

4. 5th Grade Ipads Coming Home

The 5th graders will be bringing their Ipads home for the first time next Tuesday, if the Technology Guide has been completed on Powerschool. Tuesday morning 5th students will have an assembly reminding them of the essentials of responsible use of the Ipad at home. It is encouraged that parents have this conversation with their 5th graders next week as well.

5. MCAS results Coming Home

MCAS results from last Spring are being mailed out this week. Please look for them coming home soon.

6. Mill Pond Parent Group Update

See attached file for lots of exciting upcoming events and volunteer opportunities! And don't forget there is a meeting tonight at 7 pm.

7. Nurses' Note:

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As you may know, head lice cases are common among school-aged children. An estimated 6 to 12 million infestations occur each year in the United States, most commonly among children ages 3 to 11. There has been one reported case of head lice in the 5th grade. As a standard precaution, I am going to attach a link with some information about identifying and treating head lice. If you suspect that your child has head lice, please have them be seen by their primary care provider. You may also have the student checked out in the nurse’s office.

Thank you,
