Great Migration
African Americans that lived in the south during the late 1800's and early 1900's decided to migrate north.They did because they thought that there would be more opportunities and the Jim Crow Laws where a little less harsh on them.
Jim Crow Laws
The Jim Crow Laws segregated everyone who wasn't white.These laws included many things such as:blacks could not eat with whites,blacks could not be in the white's buses,and blacks had to use "colored"bathrooms.
W.E.B DuBois
W.E.B. DuBois was born on February 23,1868 in Barrington,Massachusetts.He was famous for being the founder of the NAACP.When he was young he went to a white school.He went to Fisk University.When he saw the discrimination of the African Americans,He decided to help all of the African Americans from discrimination.One of his most famous quotes were:"We refuse to allow the impression to remain that African Americans assent to inferiority."
Booker T. Washington
Booker T. Washington was born on April 5,1856 when he was also born into slavery.Washington worked to get African Americans the education they needed.He was the founder of the Tuskegee Institute.One of his most famous quoteswere:"No race can prosper till it learns that there is as much dignity in tilling a field as in writing a poem."
George Washington Carver
George Washington Carver was born on January,1864.Carver was best known for being a peanut scientist at Tuskegee Institute.He dreamed that one day all African Americans can have the same education as Whites.One of his most famous quotes were:How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.
