Sunday Gospel
"Mother Mary is an echo of God, speaking and repeating only God." -St. Louis Grignion de Montfort
Gospel Reading:
John 15: 1 - 8
Jesus teaches that he is the vine and that his disciples are the branches.
Today’s Gospel reading is taken from middle of the Last Supper discourse. Jesus speaks about his relationship to his disciples. In his metaphor of the vine and the branches, Jesus is referencing the Hebrew Scriptures. In the Hebrew Scriptures, Israel is the vineyard, and Yahweh himself tends the vineyard.
In this passage, Jesus teaches his disciples that his relationship with them will not end after his death; he will remain with them always. This unity between Jesus and his disciples is the basis for their ability to continue to do the work that he began. Similarly, Jesus’ presence with us through the Gift of the Holy Spirit enables us to continue the work of love and reconciliation that he began.
Jesus also teaches his disciples about the importance of the words he has taught to them. Just as Jesus will remain in the disciples, so too will his words. We come to know Jesus through the Scriptures, the living Word of God. Our commitment to be Christ’s disciples is sustained through God’s Word. This commitment is also strengthened by our life of prayer and nourished by the Eucharist. Through the Eucharist, Jesus dwells in us, remains with us, and transforms us so that we might bear fruit in his name.
We observe many people who act in ways that show their commitment to serve their neighbor. Christians and non-Christians feed the hungry, care for the sick, shelter the homeless, and give alms to the poor. These actions become acts of Christian discipleship when they are motivated by our relationship with Jesus. Whatever the immediate results, Jesus promises us that these actions will bear fruit when we undertake them in his name.
Prayer: "Lord Jesus, draw us ever closer to you through the scriptures, when we partake of the Eucharist, and as we serve others in Your name" Amen+

Important Information Re: Move To At Home Online Learning for St. Mary’s Catholic School Until May 17th
As per information sent out this past Thursday, all grade levels (7-12) at St. Mary's have been temporarily shifted to at home online learning from Friday, April 30 to Friday, May 14, 2021. Students will resume in-person learning on Monday, May 17th.
Important items of note:
1-Pickup of items - If your child has left items at school that they require in order to do their online learning at home for the next two weeks (such as a computer, textbook, or binder), please call the school office to arrange for pick up during regular school hours. One student will be able to enter the building at a time to retrieve any items they cannot be without for the next two weeks of school. If this is not possible, arrangements can be made for pick up at the front door of the school by another family member, etc.
2-Attendance - All grade levels will continue to be following a synchronous learning schedule. This means that students are to attend their online classes following their regular daily class schedule, logging into their google classrooms and google meets for each course they are in. Attendance is taken via presence in each classroom's google meet. If a student is unable to attend their online class due to illness, etc., please communicate this with the office via schoolmessenger, phone, or email.
3- May 7 PD day - There will be no regular classes on Friday, May 7th as it remains a professional development day for school staff.
4- We remind students and parents to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. Please remember to complete the on-line assessment if you are exhibiting any signs or symptoms.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding in this challenging situation as we transition once more to online learning. The safety of our students and staff is our first priority. Please feel free to reach out to the school if you have any questions.
God bless,
Jim Salsbury, Principal
