N.S.A. Library
Resources for the entire N.S.A. community
The Nashville School of the Arts Library's Mission
The mission of the school library program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information; students are empowered to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. (American Association of School Librarians, 2016).
The library welcomes the entire N.S.A. community. We are available to assist in checking out student laptops, utilizing software or apps, conducting research, playing educational games, selecting books for school projects or pleasure, and using our tools in the new Makerspace room to create. Please don't hesitate to let me know how I can help you--that's why I'm here. Questions, suggestions and comments are always welcomed.
Students are allowed to check out an unlimited number of books (following the NPL policy). However, students may only check out 2 DVDs or PlayAways at a time. DVDs circulate for one week. Other library items are checked out to students for 2 weeks and may be renewed an additional two times unless there is a "hold" on an item. Students are asked to be thoughtful about how many books they check out. Returning items promptly allows other library patrons to have greater access to popular and new items.
Students must present a pass signed by a staff member when coming to the library. Each student is required to have their own individual pass. Teachers are asked not to send more than 3 students at a time. Students are not required to present passes during lunch periods. Students are expected to be respectful of the library space--keep it clean and neat. We do not allow snacks, food or drinks in the library. Occasionally students are allowed to eat in the library for a special event held during lunch. Students are expected to be respectful of each other and to be on task while in the library.
Students and parent volunteers help us daily to create this inviting learning space. This truly is your library. Please feel free to make suggestions for programming, displays, and purchases. We also welcome volunteers to check-in items, arrange shelves, create displays and decorations.

Limitless Libraries Resources
Limitless Libraries supplements the funding and programming provided by Metro Nashville Public Schools to school libraries, maximizing the efficiency and sharing resources to benefit students. Students are allowed to check out up to 100 items at a time. These can be placed on hold and delivered directly to N.S.A. and returned here as well.
In addition to providing school library collections with new DVDs, PlayAway audiobooks, and updated print items--Limitless Libraries maintains a collection of academic databases. Students can access these databases by simply authenticating with their unique Student I.D. number and password which is the month and date of their birth. (This is similar to authenticating with MackinVia).
Nashville Public Library also provides patrons with free subscriptions to the RB digital magazine service, RB digital audiobooks, Hoopla for movies, TV shows, audio and electronic books via OverDrive. Freegal and BoomBox give students access to download free music. In addition users have access to Lynda.com (Thousands of video tutorials taught by industry experts allow you to acquire software, creative, and business skills), Odillo (Borrow Spanish language eBooks, audiobooks, streaming video, and magazines. Over 15,000 titles available), and Transparent Language (Learn a new language with lessons, cultural resources, and proficiency tests),
N.S.A. Library Resources
The N.S.A. Library has a growing collection of print, DVD, electronic books, and PlayAway audio books. Students can also utilize the library's supply of maker tools to pursue academic and creative interests. Students also enjoy the large collection of games and puzzles--most of which are older than they are! The library has a black and white laser printer dedicated for student printing. Currently students are not charged to print but the library welcomes donations of paper! The library is here to support student and staff's learning and growth in utilizing and integrating technology.
The library has a large and inclusive collection that encompasses the N.S.A. arts: visual, dance, literary, music, and theatre. For example students can check out a documentary on the Bolshoi ballet, Bruce Springsteen's memoir, graffiti art books, a D.I.Y. book on setting up a home studio, screenplay how-to books, Broadway musical recordings, and a wide assortment of Pulitzer Prize winning plays.
Student who seek a leadership role at N.S.A. should consider applying to be a "Library Leader." Library Leaders are selected based on their commitment to growing N.S.A.'s literacy initiative in creative and authentic ways. Students can volunteer at different times weekly given their schedule but are expected to volunteer at least 30-60 minutes weekly.
