Ribbit Report
Turner Creek Elementary School
January 5, 2018
Happy New Year!
Please make a resolution to read the Ribbit Report weekly. It contains a lot of very important and pertinent information. It will also answer many of your questions.
If you loose it in your email, it can also be found on our website on the main page towards the bottom as well as on the NEWS tab at the top.
Snow Make Up Dates - Mark Your Calendars
Saturday, January 20 will be the make up day for January 4.
Saturday, April 7 will be the make up day for January 5.
The school hours will be 9:15-12:45. Breakfast and Lunch will NOT be served, please send a heavy snack. There will be NO recess.
Kindergarten Registration has started!
January 4 was the start of Kindergarten registration for the 2018-2019 school year.
If you have a rising Kindergartener, it is VERY important to you get them registered as early as possible! If you have older children already on the year round calendar, we need to know about your Kindergartener in order to make sure ALL of your children are on the same track.
We are accepting registrations Monday – Friday from 9:30 – 2:00. The packet can be found on our website, bring that along with a proof address (power bill, gas bill, water bill, current lease agreement), child’s birth certificate, photo ID for parent and the most current shot record to the Main Office during the designated times.
Inclement weather
We have already had our first round of inclement weather! Please remember to contact your child’s teacher and make sure they know how your child should go home IF we release early unexpectedly! We have parents give us this information at the beginning of the year but often parents change it and forget to let the teachers know.
As you can imagine, unexpected early dismissals can be quite hectic. Please help your child and their teacher by making sure everyone is on the same page. Thank you!
Upcoming Cultural Arts Performance
Number Drummer creator, Troy Kryzalka, has worked in music education for over 15 years and has delivered his integrated math and music learning approach to thousands of children and educators. He has an amazing ability to reach creative “outside the box” thinkers that have been discouraged by the traditional ways of learning, and because of his focus on mathematics in music, he represents the increased value and importance of music in schools. Combining his musical ability, mathematical perspective, and creative teaching methods, Troy inspires, engages, and motivates children to understand math and music from a fresh new perspective, regardless of age or ability. Tracks 1 & 3 students will see the performance on Jan. 19 and tracks 2 & 4 will see it on Feb. 8.

Join the READVolution
WCPSS has partnered with the Carolina Hurricanes to support reading among elementary students and we need your support. As a part of the Readvolution Reading Challenge, elementary schools reporting a collective 2,020 books or more read by Jan. 12, 2018 will be entered into a drawing for a field trip to the PNC arena. In addition, students who have read at least 20 minutes per day (Monday through Friday) outside of the classroom will receive a voucher for a ticket to a Canes game. Keep Reading!!! You are doing great
Mark your calendar!
Attention all Visitors and Volunteers!!!
We have installed a new visitor management system called Lobbyguard in the main office. Every time you come in please have your driver’s license to scan and sign in. Thank you.
Please remember that this is NOT the same as the Volunteer Registration for the county that you fill out to be able to volunteer in the classroom and on field trips.
Health Room Needs
Reminder as we get into the flu season:
Please keep your sick children home! If their immune systems are low, they are at a greater risk of picking up other illnesses not to mention getting others sick including the staff. Your child may return to school when:
- They have been fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT any fever reducing medication.
- They have not vomited for 12 hours and are not feeling too weak.
Box Tops and Tyson A+ Labels
Help Us Raise Money for TCE!
We just received a check for $773! Good work Turner Creek!
The next Box Tops submission date is March 1st. Please make sure they have valid dates (dated 3/1/2018 and beyond). The Box Tops collection bin is located in the TCE lobby across from the main office.
Clipping Box Tops is an easy way for you to help our school buy what it needs. Box Tops are each worth 10¢ and they quickly add up to real cash for our school. Here is a link showing participating Box Tops products.
Clip Tyson Project A+ labels from participating Tyson® product packages and send them to school with your child. We’ll collect the labels and send them to Tyson Foods, and Tyson Foods will send our school a check. Each label is worth 24¢!
Please drop your Tyson Project A+ labels in the Box Tops collection bin in the TCE lobby. Here is a link for a list of participating products.

WE NEED YOU!
Would you like to be an active volunteer, but don’t want to get in over your head? We have the PERFECT solution! Volunteer to be a Board Intern! This position gives you access to learn about each different board position, as well as an opportunity to learn what each of the chair positions do. The best part is YOU decide when, where and how you want to help.
It’s a perfect place to start, because the time commitment is as much or as little as you’d like, and you get an inside look at all the PTA does. Parents like YOU make ALL the difference!
We have 2 positions to fill, so don’t be shy.
Please email president@tce-pta.org for more information.
Track Change Request Information
Typically, during December and January, we have offered parents an opportunity to request a track change for the upcoming school year. Because of continued uncertainty regarding the impact of the new K-3 class size legislation, we are delaying the track change request period until April, 2018.
We apologize for the delay and inconvenience; however, we do not want to make changes until we are more certain of how the new class size legislation will be implemented at Turner Creek. As soon as information is available regarding track change requests, we will post information on our website and in the Ribbit Report newsletter.
