Brewster Weekly
May 27, 2022
We are here to do good things for our students, our coworkers, and our community.
We represent qualities such as love, hope, kindness, respect, and responsibility.
Our culture mirrors those attributes. Let’s continue to make our school the best place to work and learn where everyone is inspired to be the best they can be. What we do, we do well.
Let’s keep the courage to shape a bright future for our students.
Honoring Memorial Day
Our respect, love, and gratitude to our service men and women and their families that have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country serving in our armed services. Let us honor their sacrifice with keeping these courageous men and women in our thoughts through this holiday weekend. Our Brewster school family honored a moment of silence today and also showed our pride for our nation through wearing our scout uniforms, or wearing red, white, and blue!

5th Grade Farewell Ceremony
Dear 5th Grade Parents,
Our 5th grade celebration will take place on June 9th, in the gym & cafeteria. The doors will open at 8:45am with our ceremony to begin at 9:00 am. We will set out as many chairs that we have to try and accommodate 4 guests per student. We will welcome our guests through the gym entrance, to the right of our main entry as you face our school. We will have pre-school students arriving at this time at the front of the school, so please be aware of using appropriate parking areas and being mindful to look for pedestrians in our crosswalks.
Below are a few reminders for the special event:
· Parking is limited and will be full at arrival; however, by 8:30 it clears out significantly.
· Students may “dress to impress” and may bring clothes to change into after the ceremony if necessary, but student comfort is priority to celebrate their year!
· June 9th is a full day of school. Our teachers and 5th grade committee have a full day of fun and celebration planned. Please plan on your child attending all day after the ceremony.
· The student celebration from 1-3pm is for our students and volunteers only.
We look forward to seeing you soon and are excited for a wonderful finale to your child’s elementary years at Brewster.
Sincerely,
The Brewster 5th Grade Staff & Mrs. Dessy

ATTENTION PEDESTRIANS
Crosswalks at Brewster and N. Fairview: Please wait to be crossed by the crossing guard supporting this intersection. Do not cross unattended, thank you!
Please use only the marked and supported cross walk from our side lot to cross your children .
The car loop will move quickly with less foot traffic in the parking lot and utilizing our full length of safe sidewalk as routes to entry points.
Please have students ready to exit on the right side of the vehicle and follow the sidewalk to their entry.
Thank you for keeping our kids safe!
News From Mrs. McCue!
Hello Brewster Bulldog Families!
We have begun the process of taking down and sorting all of our amazing artwork. I am hoping to send it all home at the end of next week and the beginning of our last week – depending on what day your bulldog has art. Everyone has 2D art and K-5 will have 3D clay pieces to also bring home. I am asking if you could please send in a brown paper grocery bag or reusable bag with your child’s name on it. I am hoping this will help keep items safer than in a backpack. 😊
Thank you!

Field Day News From Ms. Z!
Brewster families,
One of the best days of the year is approaching – FIELD DAY!!! Please read the following important information. If have any questions, email me at dzarzycki@rochester.k12.mi.us
Just a couple of reminders as we are a week out.
TK-2nd grade Field day is in the morning from 8:45-10:45
3rd -5th Field day is in the afternoon from 1-3
Thank you to all the volunteers who have signed up. I truly could not do this event without you!
All volunteers will need to arrive 15 minutes before their start time. This gives you time to sign in at the front office, and to meet in the gym for a quick run through. If you signed up for "morning set-up" you do not need to arrive early - just meet in the gym at 8:30.
If for some reason you need to cancel, please let me know ASAP!
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me.
Media Update by Mrs. O'Rourke May 2022
The Great Brewster Book Race is about to Begin!
This week was the last to check out books from the Brewster Library (Media Center) this school year. Please help your child remember to return all of their book(s) next week on their library day! All classes will have a chance to win a special surprise from Mrs. O’Rourke presented to the 1st class with all books returned!
If your child cannot find a book, please double check at home. We’d really prefer getting the book back instead of charging to replace it. However, if you know the book is lost, we will check in the library one more time before sending home bills. The replacement cost for lost/damaged books is $15.00 for paperbacks $20.00 for hardcovers. We cannot accept ‘replacement’ books as we order ours from a library supply company so they come ‘shelf ready’ & catalogued with barcodes, spine labels, etc. Thank you for understanding.
Here’s some library numbers from this year:
Total number of items in our collection; (approx.) 12,272
Total number of check outs this year: 15,960 (as of 5.19.2022)*
What’s in the library?
26% -Fiction
36% -Nonfiction (according to Dewey Number)
38%-‘Other’ (includes biographies, magazines & reference)
What’s the average age of the books?
Fiction 2007
Nonfiction 2001
‘Other’ 2000
Top titles this year: 1.Smile, 2.Ghosts, 3.Dog Man Brawl of the Wild, 4.Drama, 5.Guts, 6.Diary of a Wimpy kid; Journal, 7.Diary of a Wimpy kid; The Last Straw, 8.Dog Man & Kat Kid, 9.Bird & Squirrel on the Run, 10.Sisters.
*As you can see from the amount of books circulated this year, so many thanks have to go to our outstanding volunteer team who check-in, check-out & shelf these books! Over 16,000 books by the end of the year! Wow!! Thank you!!
Many thanks to the PTA for always supporting the Media Center!
