Aquin Football Change for 2021
June 16, 2020
Due to a number of NUIC football teams making the shift to 8-man football for the 2021 season, the NUIC conference needed a commitment from the remaining 11-man schools for 2021/2022 seasons. With that being said, the Aquin administration was put in a tough spot to make a very difficult decision in a short amount of time, while at the same time, trying to adjust and cope with the challenges produced from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The following decision was extremely difficult, especially given the rich history of the Aquin football program. The Aquin administration has approved to transition the Aquin football program to 8-man football starting in the 2021 season. The decreasing numbers at the lower levels, along with player safety concerns were the leading reasons for this decision, as well as the opportunities for continued program success. Conversations with other coaches/AD's from smaller schools within the NUIC, who have already made the change to 8-man football, also played a role in this decision.
In closing, the Aquin administration will continue working with area 8-man football coaches/AD's to make the transition as smooth as possible ensuring the Aquin football program will be prepared and competitive for the 2021 season.
