What is YouTube?
YouTube is a video-shareing website, created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005 and owned by Google since late 2006, on which users can upload, view and share videos.
THE FOUNDERS
Youtube was created by three former Paypal employees in 2005 Chad Hurley, Steve Chen , and Jawed Karim. They came up with the idea after having issues trying to share videos from a dinner party at Chen's Apartment.
Impacts on Life
Youtube now serves as the leading website for video sharing. In addition to being a free-to-use site, users can even make money if they have enough subscribers and views on their videos. Youtube has made many people famous that normally wouldn't have been famous, and has changed the way we see the world due to people uploading videos in different places of the world and at different times. Politically, Youtube has been a place where users can live-stream presidential inaugurations and debates. It even live-streamed the Pope's inauguration.
What's its significance?
Youtube has connected the world (just like Facebook/twitter). 100 million videos are now uploaded daily by users from everywhere on the globe. So, its pretty safe to say Youtube has had a huge impact on life as we know it. Think about all those videos you probably would never have seen without Youtube.
