From Principal Andrews
Happy New School Year! I'm so excited to welcome our students to the 2023-24 school year. It's going to be an amazing year!
6TH GRADE FAMILIES
We can't wait to welcome our newest 6th Grade Rams into our GMA family! We encourage students and parents to attend Rising RAM 6th grade Orientation to learn more about our middle school and how to support your student. Following Rising RAM 6th grade Orientation, students and parents will have an opportunity to Meet the Teachers. Rising RAM Orientation will be held on Friday, August 4 from 4:30-5:15. Meet the Teachers will follow from 5:15-6:15 PM.
7TH & 8TH GRADE FAMILIES
Meet the Teachers for our rising 7th and 8th graders will be a drop-in event, held on Friday, August 4 from 6:30-7:30 PM. Parents and students will have the opportunity to meet teachers, tour the building, drop off medications with the Nurse, and visit stations in the cafeteria (PTA, Spirit Wear, Bus Routes, etc.).
ALL GRADES
No need to bring school supplies during Rising RAM Orientation or Meet the Teachers. Students are encouraged to bring in supplies during the first two weeks of school. Teachers will issue lockers to students during the first week and will notify students of what supplies are essential to start the year. Student IDs will be issued to students in the first few days of school. Once issued, students must wear IDs upon entering the school. Also, the Transportation Office will contact parents about bus routes. However, we will have a bus representative at Meet the Teachers to answer any questions.

Carline Procedures
Please adhere to the following procedures when dropping off and/or picking up your student. Student safety is our priority. Please be courteous and take turns at the intersections.
Click image to the right to view video of our afternoon carline.
MORNINGS:
- Student drop off begins at 7:30 AM & no earlier. Do not leave students unattended.
- Stay in line to the far right for drop off. Students should quickly exit wherever they stop in the line at the front of the school, and walk to the entrance of the building.
- Do not park on Lowndes and allow students to exit your vehicle.
- Do not drop off or pick up students except in the designated area at the front of the school.
- Students cannot be dropped off in the school parking lot. Please use the car line.
AFTERNOONS:
- Please be mindful that we have many students who walk to the church and walk home from school.
- All cars will line up single file in the front of the school as far right as possible.
- Do not block roads, intersections, or private driveways.
- When the right lane fills up from the building entrance to the school entrance, traffic will begin to line up on Perrin Road in a single line.
- Pull as close to the curb on Lowndes and Perrin, as school buses will need to pass on your left.
- We strongly encourage exiting to the right once leaving campus. This route will easily take you towards downtown and Pleasantburg Road.
- At 2:45 PM, a double car line will be created. No early dismissals after 2:30 (you will get stuck in the carline).
- At 3:15, we dismiss students using the SAS System to assist us with a safe dismissal process. Please pay attention to the staff directing cars in the line.
- If your student doesn’t come out with their group, pull up to the Ram statue.
Please Note: Crossing Guards do not direct traffic. If you have a concern regarding crossing guards, please contact the Greenville County Sheriff’s Department.
Tasty Tuesday & Frosty Friday Volunteers!
If you’re looking for an easy, fun way to get involved with the GMA PTA, then Tasty Tuesdays & Frosty Fridays are for you!
Every Tuesday and Friday beginning Aug. 22 (Tuesday) and Aug. 25 (Friday), the GMA PTA will sell snacks & ice cream to students for $1 during lunch times. It’s a highly popular event that requires parent volunteers to be successful. Parents are welcome to work as many shifts as they’d like. Volunteers must be pre-approved as Level I or Level II to work during Tasty Tuesdays & Frosty Fridays.

School Expectations
Tdap Requirement for All Rising 7th Graders
Please make sure the Immunization form is sent to school as soon as possible. Send a copy of the DHEC South Carolina immunization form to the school to ensure that we have it on record. You may email them, during the summer, to Principal Andrews at yandrews@greenville.k12.sc.us.
Your child will not be able to pick up their schedule at Meet the Teachers, or more importantly, attend school on the first day until we have this form. Submit the SC Immunization form in order to prevent any delay in starting school!
Summer Reading
Celebrate Summer Reading 2023 - Greenville Middle Academy is excited to recognize our Top Summer Readers when we return to school in August!
Students, it's not too late to participate in our Summer Reading Program. Simply, select the books you want to read - histories, mysteries, sports, or graphic novels. You could also listen to audiobooks or podcasts. eBooks and audiobooks are free through the Sora app with your school username and password. The link to GCSD Sora library is found at the bottom of our school webpage (https://www.greenville.k12.sc.us/gvillem).
Completed "Celebrate Summer Reading!" forms must be turned in to Mrs. Carey in the Media Center by Friday, August 25, 2023.
Extended Day Program
Early registration for our Extended Day Program (EDP) is now open. Please use the link on our website to access the EDP Handbook and EDP Registration link.
Is Your Address Up-To-Date?
As we are preparing for the next school year's registration, it is most important that we have your correct address information on file. This determines the school your student will attend.
Also, keep in mind that the final report cards are mailed at the end of the school year. All address changes require proper documentation (two proofs of residency) to be presented to the school.
If you have moved or will be moving, please email Sherry Coleman, our Guidance Clerk, by email at shecoleman@greenville.k12.sc.us or phone at 864-355-5604.
