Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a systems approach supported by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Jackson R-2 School District to promote and maximize academic achievement and behavioral competence. It is a school-wide strategy at Orchard Drive Elementary for helping all students achieve important academic and behavioral learning goals. We know that when good behavior and good teaching come together, our students will excel in their learning.
As a part of PBIS, we have established clear expectations for behavior in all areas of our school. We explicitly teach these expectations to the students and recognize their efforts. We have four essential behavior standards that we will focus on teaching our students: be respectful, be responsible, be safe, and have character. See the following pages for more information on these behavior standards and expectations. When students follow expectations, they will be rewarded with positive feedback and/or Pride Tickets. Pride tickets can be “cashed in” for rewards.
By detailing every expected behavior and teaching them to students in a positive way, we will provide a common language for everyone in our building. We believe that by helping students practice good behavior, we will build a school community where all students have an environment where they can succeed and grow.
