Charles Upson December Newsletter
From Principal Gilson
Dear Parents/Guardians:
The Main Foyer area is almost complete! We are finalizing the last details in an effort to better accommodate your needs when visiting CU. In the upcoming weeks, you will notice our “Visitors” portion has been moved to the left side of the vestibule area and there will be a person at the window to assist you. Your patience and flexibility are appreciated during this transitional time.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher conferences are most effective when there is two-way communication between home and school. This allotted time provides an opportunity for teachers and parents to communicate openly about your child’s strengths and areas of concern relevant to academic, social, emotional and behavioral situations at school. Parent/Teacher conferences can also help both parties better understand how we can be a support system for one another.
Additionally, Parent/Teacher conferences are an important vehicle for helping parents
understand how they can become actively involved in their child’s education. Please plan to
attend your child’s scheduled conference. We encourage you to share your thoughts and any
pertinent information with your child’s teacher. If for any reason you cannot attend the
scheduled time, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher to reschedule. Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, December 7, 2022. Please be reminded that this is a half day for students and dismissal will be at 11:50am.

Colder Weather
On another note, the colder weather is here! Please be sure your child comes dressed for
outdoor recess. This includes a coat, hat, gloves/mittens, boots and snow pants. If your child is
not appropriately dressed, his/her activity during outdoor recess will be limited. Parents may
also want to consider sending in a change of clothes for their child, as sometimes during recess, children get wet.
Family Paint Night at Charles Upson

Mrs. Northrup, art teacher at Charles Upson, hosted a Family Paint Night! Families enjoyed painting a polar bear together. Grade K & 1 is December 19! Watch for more information and look for more paint nights coming soon!

What's Happening in Our School?
Students in the Charles Upson STEAM club worked with their librarian Mrs. Schneider to build lego robots. | Michelle Watier, building-based aide, is reading with a first-grade student. | Niagara County Sheriffs and Lockport City Police came to read to classes at Charles Upson Elementary. November is celebrated as a month-long appreciation of Lockport's men and women in blue. |
Lost and Found
Lastly, throughout the year, children tend to misplace personal items. Please encourage your
child to look in the “lost and found” for missing clothing articles.
