Partners in Education
Dear Staff,
As we return to work this week, I hope you are rested and ready to get back at the job.
Thursday is a big day for our school. Parents are eager to meet with you to learn more about how their child is doing this school year. We know as educators that adult support may be the single more important aspect of how children succeed in school and life.
As you meet with parents and share good news as well as areas of concern, please keep in mind for some people this is the first time they are hearing anything negative about their child. This can be a very nerve-racking experience for parents.
Maya Angelou once said, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Take time to listen and let parents know you care. They want to partner with you; they are your strongest ally.
I am confident you will find something positive to say about every student in your classroom. Please know I am here to offer support and willing to sit in any conference if you think it would be helpful.

Announcements and Reminders
- Please let me know you have any language concerns for parent-teacher conferences and need an interpreter.
- Report math common assessments in Powerschool using CAFALL If you have questions refer to the central teacher group email or see me.
Legacy Grants are available. The fall grant deadline is November 1st. I would like to see at least one teacher from Central Elementary submit an application.
- Math Textbook Adoption will look very different than in the past. Stay tuned if you are on the committee. Check out materials in the teacher's lunchroom
High School Spanish IV Class to visit on Friday, November 4. The students will teach a 30 minute lesson to grades 1 – 5. I appreciate your help and willingness to host my students. 9:00 – 9:30 – Central Visit
November 11 we are having a Veteran's Day program. April Miller is working hard to put this together. Just putting this on your radar.
November 2-Kick-Off-Major Saver (November 9-14 Collection) is looking forward to another successful campaign and partnership with the Plainfield Community Schools and the Plainfield Community Schools Legacy Foundation. Below are the campaign dates and details about this year’s campaign.
Shrek the musical is presenting to our students on November 18th at 9:00.
Fall Parties
Teachers will coordinate volunteers for individual classroom parties. Three are suggested, but it is really up to you and the help you want in your classroom.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
- October 20, 2016
- Your hours are 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
- Dinner is arriving in the teachers' lounge at 4:00 p.m.
- Please let me know you have any language concerns for parent-teacher conferences and need an interpreter.
- We will place a sign in sheet in your mailbox. Please turn in a sign in sheet so we can see who came. It can be as simple as a check mark next to a list of names. Make sure to have your name and grade on it.
- Finally, please let parents know that we are continuing to renovate the building throughout this year.
United Way
The Plainfield community School Family will, once again this year, be participating in the United Way of Central Indiana fundraising efforts. Central is proud to participate. This is an excellent opportunity for us to teach our children about the importance of giving to others through charitable donations.
Event for Teachers
Beginning Monday, October 17th-October 28 teachers can purchase a 35.00 Jeans Day Pass, which is good for 10 days of casual jeans dress.
Event for Students
Students can wear their costume for a dollar on October 28th (fall party day).

Staff Celebrations!
- 97.64 percent Attendance!!
- Congratulations to April Miller on getting married and becoming Mrs. Allen!
- Congratulations to Megan Johnson for being recognized by ICON as being a super teacher!
- Thank you for a great JDRF fundraiser. Our students raised over 850.00.
- Congratulations to Mrs. Stevenson's class who raised the most money. Second was Mrs. Todd's class and third was Mrs. A. Johnson's class.
- We had a great Red Ribbon Week focusing on making safe choices. Thank you to Mrs. White for all your organizing! A special thanks to specials teachers for giving up Wednesday to focus on healthy living.
