MIDDLE SCHOOL TOUR FIELD TRIP TOMORROW
Tour for families is optional.... please read the details below
Additional AMS tour for students with his or her family
Please know that your child has seen both middle school options after tomorrow with the other 5th grade students. The teachers are taking them tomorrow to AMS and Montford if they have a signed permission slip. (2nd round of permission slips went home today.) I was unaware of visiting options last year for families. We also didn't visit the middle schools last year as a field trip. I believe the district is trying to improve the transition from the elem. to middle school by having tours. I have also heard through the grapevine that students can have an excused note from AMS for tardies (I have not heard this from my administration). Please call AMS for further questions.
You can go with your child to see AMS in the following two ways...
1.Morning Visit
No Appointment for tour with families
at 9 am
211 s. French Broad Ave
828-350-6200
2. Open House Night
All interested middle school students and families
Thursday 2.1.18
at 5:30 pm
CLX Magnet Theme Open House Volunteers
Hi all!
Claxton is hosting three Open House days for new families as a part of the Magnet School Enrollment for next year. We need volunteers to welcome new families and volunteers and to serve as tour guides (assisting some of our wonderful students who will also be helping out. Please click on the attached schedule and choose a time slot (or two!) as your schedule allows!
Couple of things to keep in mind:
+ You are exactly who we're looking for! There's no experience required to be a tour guide - other than your love for Claxton! We'll give everyone a brief outline of the main information you'll need.
+ Mr. Edwards and Mrs. Nichols will be on hand to answer any specific questions that prospective parents might have.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Reading- Reading- As quarter 2 comes to an end, we will finish working on main ideas in informational texts, summarizing, and reviewing text structures. On Thursday, January 25th, the students will have a quiz to assess their understanding of these concepts.
RI.5.2 Determine two or more main ideas of a text and explain how they are supported by key details; summarize the text.
RI.5.5 Compare and contrast the overall structure (e.g., chronology, comparison, cause/effect, problem/solution) of events, ideas, concepts, or information in two or more texts.
Social Studies- We continue our study of the Revolutionary War this week. We will have a test on this unit Friday January 26th based on our notes, study guide, and primary source activities we have completed in class. Students will not be able to use notes on this assessment. We will study together in class with a variety of review activities. Most review will take place in class. However, if you want to help students study at home, you may refer to the following quizlets:
