COLLIER ADULT EDUCATION
Tuesday, May 15, 2018
Message from the Leadership Team.
Last week a group of our teachers had the opportunity to attend and present at the Florida Literacy Conference. It is always great not only to have a presence but to also be seen as instructional leaders for the state; and that is truly what we have with our adult education teachers. During the three days they led and engaged participants from across the state in the following sessions:
- Christine Briggs led the Florida DOE session titled What Every ESOL Teacher Needs to Know about the New 2018 Curriculum Frameworks.
- Marie Coleman led the session 4C's + 3D's = Engaged Learning which focused on Critical Thinking, Communication, Creativity and Collaboration along with the idea of having students Discover (learn something new), Dabble (play with or explore with what we've learned) and Distribute (share or reteach what we've learned).
- Lionel L'Esperance with assistance from Kris Betten-Jutasi led the session on EQ+IQ=Student Success which focused on helping students develop techniques to develop emotional self-awareness.
I'm sure these sessions will be repeated at the 2018 ACE Conference here in Naples.
Also, please take a moment to complete the 2018-2019 Teacher Interest Survey for next school year. This quick survey assist us in planning for the needs of next year while trying to accommodate everyone's interests.

ESOL Instructor Resources
Many keep asking for even more ways to incorporate listening and speaking skills. If you teach Intermediate to Advanced this site is for you!
Check out this website that one of our own instructors, Luis F. has found which I think is a great resource to bring in the real world using 10 minute video clips to listen to while afterwards leads to great discussions. https://www.cnn.com/cnn10 This can be aligned to our curriculum frameworks in many ways!
