Mrs. Adelberger Maternity Leave Coverage Update
I hope you are well! As you know, I am expecting a baby girl quite soon. She is due to arrive on December 1st. I cannot believe it is just a week and a half away! (But we all know babies have their own timeline.) I plan to work up until my delivery. I appreciate all of the kindness you have shown me during this exciting time in my life. I will ask Mrs. Ernst to send you an update when my little one arrives. After I deliver, I will spend the next 12 weeks at home with my darling daughter.
I am pleased to announce that Mr. John Murtha, the current assistant principal of Mill Creek, will be filling in for me during my twelve week leave. Below is an introductory message from Mr. Murtha. Please give him the warm Kutz welcome you have given me over the past few years.
Welcome Mr. Murtha!
Dear Kutz Cougar Community!
My name is John Murtha, and I am thrilled to be joining the Kutz Elementary Team as acting principal during Ms. Adelberger’s maternity leave. I am coming over to Kutz from my current role as Assistant Principal at Mill Creek Elementary School where I served as Mill Creek’s acting principal for 6 weeks to start the 2020-2021 school. I realize that every school has its own personality and needs, but I am confident that my successful work/experience leading Mill Creek to start off this very unique and even challenging school year will serve me well as I look to provide strong support and leadership for Kutz Elementary. I will also rely on my more than 10 years of administrative experience in Central Bucks, during which, outside of my time Mill Creek, I served in the role of middle school assistant principal at Unami then Tohickon Middle Schools. Additionally, during the 10 years prior to my administrative career, I was fortunate to teach elementary math then secondary social studies in Southern New Jersey. It has been very exciting for me to return to the elementary level, where my career in education began those many years ago, and I look forward to Kutz being a part of my current journey.
Please know that I am here to support the students and community of Kutz with nothing less than my best. I think the Mill Creek Community would attest to the strong support I have offered them to date during the 2020-2021 school year, and I can promise you will receive the same commitment and dedication to Kutz as I have shown to Mill Creek.
See you all soon!
Sincerely,
Mr. John C. Murtha
Technology Update- LanSchool for Grades 3-6
LanSchool Air helps teachers provide instruction and guidance to students outside of the traditional classroom. This solution includes features that:
- Allow teachers to save time by pushing a website to all student devices instantly.
- Offer instant messaging between the teacher and students, giving students the opportunity to digitally “raise their hand” to indicate they’ve finished their assignment or have a question.
- Enable teachers to view students’ screens to ensure they’re staying on track.
- Provide a way for teachers to set restrictions on the websites and apps students can visit during class time.
If you would like more information about LanSchool Air, please visit the website at Lanschoolair.com.
Thank you for all you are doing to keep your children safe and learning.
Celebrate Dominic on December 7th
On Monday, December 7, please join us in remembering Dominic Liples, a loved member of the Kutz community, by wearing red, a minion’s tee shirt, and/or crazy socks. He loved all those things and much more. Let’s honor him on this day by focusing on the joy and happiness he brought to our school, community and all those around him. Please keep his family- Kira, Kenny and Ciarlo (a current 4th grader) in your thoughts throughout the year, but especially during this month. Thank you.

CB Cares Boomerang- November Asset
For November CB Cares is looking to celebrate an asset we can all relate to. I am sure you all know students who are motivated to do well in school, which is great because that is November’s Asset.
Please nominate you high achievers for this month’s Boomerang award by emailing Michele Putnam (mputnam@cbsd.org) their names and a little blurb about how they champion this asset by Monday, November 23rd.
Social Emotional Learning Update
Throughout the year, your child will be provided Home Links that go with several of the Second Step lessons. Home Links are simple, fun activities for you and your child to complete together. They are a great way for you to understand what your child is learning and for your child to show you what he or she knows. As a continued effort to provide families with Social Emotional Learning resources, Second Step offers parents and guardians the opportunity to access the Home Links and other resources online. In order to access these resources, parents and guardians of students in grades K-5 can go to the website, www.secondstep.org, create an account, and then enter the activation code below for the grade level your child is enrolled in. For parents and guardians of sixth graders, please access the website, www.parenteenconnect.org. Thank you for supporting your child in learning the skills that lead to success in school and in life.

Updated Travel Request Form and Policy
Here is the new family travel request form to act as a reminder to families when returning from a state or country on the commonwealth’s travel advisory list: https://www.cbsd.org/cms/lib/PA01916442/Centricity/Domain/386/CB328_familytravel_writable_PDF_Oct%202020.pdf
PLEASE NOTE: Per the guidelines listed in the district’s health and safety plan, students returning from states/countries listed on the commonwealth’s "COVID-19 Information for Travelers" web page may not attend school in-person or participate in school-sponsored activities in person for 14 days from the date on which they return from travel. (Students will participate in classes online during this time period.) School administrators reserve the right to enforce this procedure in the event that students return in-person in violation of this directive.
Attendance Expectations
Children are expected to attend all elements of the school day in whatever mode you selected, unless they have an excused absence (i.e. illness, appointment). It is important to understand that attendance is mandatory for all students per the compulsory attendance laws of Pennsylvania. Attendance will be taken each school day. Students that are not in class or not logged on at the start of class will be marked absent or tardy if they arrive late to their physical or virtual class.
If your child will not be able to attend school, in person or virtually, or needs to miss part of the day for an appointment, parents need to email kpirrone@cbsd.org. Email is strongly preferred but if you are unable to email the school, please call the school attendance line at 267-893-3900.
Online and hybrid students need to be present and actively participating in their learning. Having the camera on and being visible to the teacher allows the teacher to note their attendance as present. Students who turn off their camera for extended periods of time and are not engaging in the lesson, or leave the class early will be marked absent.
News from the Nurse
FLU SEASON
I want to remind everyone that flu season is just around the corner. I am asking that families consider getting a flu vaccine. We want to keep everyone as healthy as possible this year. Some of the symptoms for flu and COVID are the same and we do not want anyone to have to take extra steps in order to return to in person instruction. Children are typically out of school for a week with the flu. Please ask your doctor if you have concerns about getting the vaccine. Putting a reminder on your phone or calendar is a good way to remember to prioritize your health.
SEASONAL ALLERGIES
We are hearing from some parents that their children have seasonal allergy symptoms. In an effort to keep from having symptoms on the COVID Daily Checklist, please consider keeping their allergies under control by giving daily allergy medication. If you have concerns about this please consult your child's pediatrician about other options.
Please refer to the COVID - 19 Allergies vs. Flu Spreadsheet below.
Stay well,
