Family Engagement Night

On Friday the 25th of January Tawanka held its annual upper grades family engagement night. The night was full of fun with families participating in the Brain Show game show and parents/guardians taking on staff members at Volleyball

2nd Grade

Mrs. Cozza and Mrs. Eckelmeyer's classes took a virtual field trip to an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee.

Physical Education

Officer Colleen visits the Tawanka gym on a regular basis. On this particular occasion, she competed with Tawanka students in floor hockey. Officer Colleen loves visiting Tawanka and we love having her here.

1st Grade

The first grade celebrated the January winners of the 100 Book Challenge. These students have read 100 books or more and are working towards their next goal! Great job!

Kindergarten

After reading three different versions of Stone Soup, Mrs. Geers Kindergarten Class made their own stone soup with the ingredients they brought in to share.

Then they made their very own Stone Soup Book.

2nd Grade

As part of our STEM unit, students designed their own hand pollinators.

3rd Grade

Mrs. Tryon’s class has accepted the Kindness Challenge for the month of February. After reading the book, Kindness is Cooler, Mrs. Ruler, the students were given the challenge to complete 15 acts of kindness by the end of the month. Each time they perform an act of kindness, they earn a heart to add to their “Heart Chart” that is hanging up in the classroom. They can earn hearts at both home and school. The class is off to a fantastic start in just the first week of February!

Talent Show

Registration forms are available this week to students who are interested in trying out for our school talent show, “Tawanka’s Got Talent.” If you are interested and did not pick up a form from Mr. Barber, please do so as soon as possible. Forms are also available on Mr. Barber and Mrs. Tryon’s websites to print. All registration forms are due on February 13th. Late forms will NOT be accepted.

The kids enjoyed indoor recess when the temps were frigid.

EarlyAct Club

Quick – clean out your closest!!!

The EarlyAct Club will continue to collect sneaker donations (any size) until Wednesday, February 13th. So far, Tawanka has collected 187 pairs of sneakers!!!

Library

Barnes & Noble (Neshaminy Mall) Bookfair Night will be Wednesday, March 6th; 5:30-8:30. Cupcake order forms (pre-order only) are due to Mrs. Piccinetti by Monday, February 25th.

Stand Up Neshaminy

#StandUp Neshaminy is hosting the Sunset Challenge 5K & 2K running race at Maple Point Middle School on Friday, May 10 at 6:45 pm. Runners, students and families are all encouraged to join this fun competition! The race course is certified and will be electronically timed by RunBucks, LLC.

All pre-registrations include a race t-shirt. Banners will be awarded for the highest participation rate and fastest average times for Neshaminy elementary schools in the 2K race, and middle schools for the 5K race.

Read to Succeed

Read to Succeed is an incentive to get more students to read daily. The students are asked to read every day during the months of January and February, totaling 6 hours. They will receive a certificate and a free ticket to Six Flags, Great Adventure Amusement Park in New Jersey, upon completion. The students were given reading logs for parents to sign. The dead line to return the logs to their teachers is Friday, February 22, 2019.

Read Across America

Tawanka will be participating in Read across America February 25, 2019 to March 1, 2019. During the week, the students can dress up like the Grinch, or have wacky hair. A schedule will be set home. On March 1, 2019, Tawanka will have special guests come to read to the students, celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Kindergarten and first grade students will have the librarians from The Township Library of Lower Southampton reading to them. The Second grade students will have students from the high school reading to them. Our very own retired art teacher, Mrs. Deeken will be reading her book, Chance’s Tale: How I Became A Therapy Dog to the third and fourth grade students.

Deborah Deeken and Chance will visit Tawanka

Deborah Deeken, (Tawanka’s retired art teacher) has written a book, from Chance’s words/perspective about his life’s journey to becoming a therapy dog. This is Mrs. Deeken’s first published book and Tawanka will be the first to meet Chance and hear his story. She also has written Little Lou, Now We’re Going to Pick on You and Animalz, A to Z, which have not been published. Deborah and Chance will be visiting Tawanka in March.

TAWANKA SAFETY PROCEDURES

With the changing world in which we live, Tawanka has set in place STRICT safety procedures.


All visitors MUST scan their driver's license in the Kiosk when they enter the visitor's door.


All clearances MUST be on file in the office to attend any in-school activity during school hours including class activities, field day and field trips. Click on the link below to view info on how to obtain your clearances.
