Curriculum
Math Workshop
In Unit 5, students learned and used a variety of multiplication strategies. We discussed helper facts (2s, 5s, and 10s), skip counting, near squares, adding and subtracting a group, doubling and using the break-apart strategy. Students have really grown with their multiplication and are using their strategies readily.
In Unit 6, students are continuing to look at fact practice. We will also explore subtraction and the use of parentheses in a number sentence.
Reading Workshop
All students are finishing up their first novels! Students worked on different skills from sequencing to monitoring and self-correcting. Our book clubs were full of in-depth discussions and a sharing of ideas. We are excited to move into our next books together!
In Journey's, we have been practicing look at theme, author's purpose, and character traits. The class has done an incredible job writing responses and discussing the text.
Read Across America!
3A-M celebrated Read Across America in a variety of ways. We participated in a reading chain with the entire school, we read The Lorax and discussed theme, and we created our own book commercials! Check out SeeSaw to see our Book Commercials!
Writing Workshop
Our third graders have just finished their informational books! We spent the past weeks talking about text features, introductions, paragraphing, adding details, adding ideas, and so much more! Students used google slides to write and publish their incredible books! Our next unit will be persuasive writing!
Social Studies
Students are currently learning about geography. We are thinking about our place in the world and how to identify ourselves by continent, country, state, county, and city. Students pretended to be on a space shuttle to learn about the continents from "space". Students are also working on a "Me On a Map" Activity. This background in geography will help us as we continue to learn about our own state of New Jersey!
