NOVEMBER 2, 2022 - NEWSLETTER
Hello SLP Schools Online Families,
I have been enjoying the spectacular fall weather. I hope your daily learning schedule is allowing for some additional outdoor time – recess or fall learning activities.
This fall, students have been learning about their various communities at home, school, and within greater Spring Lake Park and beyond. One outdoor learning activity families enjoyed was the October "SLP Online Meet-up.” Online students, families, and teachers met at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden at the Walker Art Center. They deepened their classroom learning through an appreciation of public art, community, and the importance of gathering.
Before visiting the sculpture garden, students learned how public sculpture and art can reflect a community and its culture, and they also learned about the elements of sculpture and how to ask thoughtful questions about a work of art. In Math Club, students discussed seeing patterns and shapes in art. This prior learning encouraged students to consider how patterns may be seen in the sculptures at the sculpture garden.
November has arrived, and we have three solid weeks of learning before the Thanksgiving holiday. This is important learning time. Thank you for continuing to support your student in their online learning each day. Please remember to call the attendance line, 763-600-5209, to report student absences due to illness, appointments, and vacation.
Take care!

Panther Football advances to section finals
The Panther Football team is moving on to the section finals this Friday after defeating the Irondale Knights 28-7 in the section semi-finals on October 29.
The Panthers (#1 seed) will play the Rogers Royals (#3 seed) in the Section 6AAAAA Championship game on Friday, November 4 at 7 p.m. at Panther Stadium.
Show your Panther Pride and join us at Panther Stadium to cheer the team on. Go, Panthers!
Our primary elementary school class (K-3) has been learning about their communities at home, school, and Spring Lake Park. Students have been working on a culminating project to demonstrate their learning as shown in student A'layah's impressively detailed poster project! Awesome work!
School and so much more
In a few short weeks, homemade drones assembled by students will fill the air outside Westwood Intermediate and Middle School. They are coming together thanks to the after-school Code & Fly Camp. This month, the high school gym will come alive with the sounds of indoor Pickleball.
These new programs are available through Spring Lake Park Schools Community Education. Each program is designed to help participants learn new skills, connect with others who share similar interests and — maybe most importantly – have fun. At SLP, we’re school and so much more.
Now is a great time for your child, your family or yourself to get involved. There are also opportunities for community members to teach a class.
Programs for the whole family are running now with a new wave of youth programs starting up next week. Browse and register today.
