SAFETY DRILLS UPDATE
Within the first 60 days of school, we must conduct emergency drills within our building. These drills help us to practice what we should do in the event of an emergency.
This week we practiced our Shelter-In-Place. As a reminder, a Shelter-in-Place drill is used for a weather related emergency. Students and staff did a great job during our drill on Wednesday. They were focused on getting to their meeting locations quickly and quietly.
Reminder: If you should report to the school during these drills you will not be able to enter the building. A sign will be posted on the outside door to communicate this. Most drills are fairly brief. We thank you, in advance, for your patience and understanding during this time.
A Note from the School Nurse
This a reminder to all parents/guardians that elementary students are not able to self-carry ANY medication including cough drops among other over the counter cold/allergy remedies.
Please refer to the CRSD website/handbook which states:
Students MAY NOT CARRY any form of prescription or nonprescription “over-the-counter drugs” with them during school. This is a violation of District policy that will result in disciplinary action.
SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
During the past few weeks, your child’s class has been reviewing the SW-PBIS (School Wide- Positive Behavior Interventions & Support) school expectations. The lessons included a class discussion, modeling and practicing of respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors in the locations listed on the school-wide matrix. Your child’s class also learned about the voice levels that are expected for the different locations. Please take some time to review the matrix and voice level chart with your child. Our school website has a SW-PBIS link with more specific information regarding the structure of Goodnoe’s School Wide Positive Interventions & Support system. Check out more information at the links below.

Reading Tidbits & Tips
September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month. Now that you are settled into a new school year, take your child or children to your local public library. During Covid, children spent a lot of time reading online.Children need to spend time reading books in print as well. Reading digital print and reading words on paper require different skills. Children need both in the world in which we live. Therefore, get your kids a library card so they can regularly experience the enjoyment of holding a book in their hands as they read or the joy of curling up beside you as you read to them one of the books they brought home from their visit.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you have.
