Eagle Nation News

Weekly Update: November 19, 2021

EagleNation,

We have only 17 days left in the first semester! It is hard to believe that we have made it through another year and nearly halfway through a school year.

As we reflect on this first semester back to fully in-person learning for the first time in two school years, we recognize that our students have unfinished learning from the last two years of school that included enduring different modes of instruction, missed days of school, masks, COVID testing, social-distancing...just to name a few. We have also seen a rise in the social-emotional issues that many of our students and their families are facing daily. We want to partner with you as you work through these issues, please be sure you are in communication with your child's teacher if you need to share any information that might help us work with your child.

Thank you for partnering with us as we work together to help all of our students reach their fullest potential.

UPCOMING DAYS OFF

  • November 24-26: Thanksgiving Break
  • December 20-31: Winter Break

PLEASE NOTE ALL BUILDING OFFICES, AS WELL AS OUR CENTRAL OFFICE, WILL BE CLOSED FOR BUSINESS FROM NOVEMBER 24TH-26TH.

Small Group Reading

As a part of our current reading program, K-5 students have the opportunity to participate in small group reading instruction in their classrooms. Small Group reading is where the teacher works with groups of 2-6 students in order to differentiate instruction, increase collaboration, and provide meaningful feedback. This also allows the teacher to better target individual students’ reading strengths and areas of need. Our teachers use current and ongoing assessment data to determine instructional needs. Students work at their individual level to develop foundational skills and learn strategies that will help them become more successful readers. Our small groups address phonemic awareness, phonics and decoding skills, and comprehension. Small groups also build community in our classrooms because students are working together on similar goals and have the opportunity to learn from each other. It truly is a beneficial learning experience for all involved!

Adopt-A-Family Program

Adopt-A-Family Program is a community effort to make everyone’s holiday a special time. If you could benefit from additional assistance this year, we would like to provide your name along with ages, sizes, and any special needs of your family to the program. We cannot guarantee assistance or the purchase of certain items, but this does allow us to better match families’ needs with what agencies/community members have to offer.

Permission from a parent or guardian is required before the name of any student or family is released for assistance. Please submit only one (1) form per family including all children, birth through high school only, who are living full-time in the home and attend school in the Bethalto school district.
