Dear PfISD Parents & Guardians
With September quickly speeding by us, there is a special week and day coming up at the end of the month which we don’t want to forget or miss. Sept. 27 through Oct. 1 is Custodial Appreciation Week, with Oct. 2 being National Custodial Appreciation Worker’s Recognition Day.
Certainly, during COVID, we all recognize the important work our custodians do every day to help keep our facilities healthy and clean. Please remember to take time to say thanks and appreciate their hard work. They truly make life better and safer for all of us. Our thanks go out to all of our wonderful custodial staff!
Speaking of hard work being done, I’d like to spotlight the work of our front office staff and registrars, for all they’ve done to get us to this point. This time of year is usually stressful and busy, and throw in COVID, and you’ve got a situation unlike no other. Thank you for the patience shown, despite the many odd and difficult instances that have come your way, and for your professionalism. It is greatly appreciated.
With the fall weather finally dropping in, it seems like a beautiful day for being outdoors, and our football teams will be doing just that Thursday and Friday. At The Pfield this week, Connally entertains Cedar Creek on Thursday, and on Friday, crosstown rivals Hendrickson and Weiss clash in what should be a barnburner. PHS will be in Austin to face Anderson. Best of luck to all our teams!
In volleyball action, Hendrickson’s experienced squad is laser-focused on winning, and has earned a state ranking in the process. But Weiss coach Karen Huffman has her team clicking on all cylinders right now, and their set of seniors come highly motivated into a Friday game against the Hawks. Connally and PHS have also played entertaining brands of volleyball, so try to check out a volleyball game if you get a chance. Our teams will appreciate it.
The end of the grading period is coming up, so now is the time for assignments and lessons to get finalized. Our best to our staff and students as they prepare for their initial report cards of the 2021-22 school year.
In the best interest of children,
Douglas Killian, Ph.D.

Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month continues through October 15, and we have seen some great photos from a number of our campuses celebrating the culture of where many in our community have come from. You can see the influence these cultures have had on our area and our everyday lives as these members of our community carry a little of their heritage with them through the generations.
Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, PfISD will be highlighting some of the achievements of Hispanic Americans who have made an impact in their community and our country. You can learn more about Hispanic Heritage Month and other months that honor diversity on our Diversity page at https://www.pfisd.net/domain/101.
Please continue to find ways to celebrate this month on your campuses and share photos for our community to see!
New COVID Vaccine Clinic Dates
We have partnered with Austin Public Health to set up additional COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics for our students and staff. We have upcoming clinic dates at each high school and middle school. While dates and sites have been established, we are still working to find the best location on the campuses to hold these clinics. We will provide those details when they are available.
If you would like to receive a COVID-19 vaccination, please mark your calendar for one of these days that fits your schedule. These clinics are open to all staff and age-eligible students (12 and up) regardless of site. You do not have to attend the campus you receive the vaccination at.
The APH Pedi Mobile Vaccine Program will provide COVID-19 Vaccinations using Pfizer vaccine for our students and their families. A legal guardian MUST be present for all minors receiving the vaccination. Persons receiving vaccination will be required to wait at least 15 minutes post-vaccination.
Parents are requested to complete this survey to sign up to ensure we have enough vaccinations available at each location. Dates and times for these clinics are posted below. All locations are open to all PfISD staff and students age 12 and up and their families.

We have finalized details on our annual Pfestival of Bands event hosted by PfISD Fine Arts! After canceling last year’s event, our Fine Arts Department is proceeding with a scaled-back version of the event this year scheduled for Sept. 27 at The Pfield.
The best part is…. it’s FREE!
This year’s event will be free to the public with no price for admission to see all four high schools perform their UIL contest shows. Gates open at 6 p.m. with the first performance slated for 7.
The event will be live-streamed for 7th and 8th grade band students who are not in person for the event.

Bus Notifications Update
Pflugerville ISD is no longer utilizing SafeStop to provide information on bus stops. For any parents who may have signed up for this service in the past, you may receive incorrect notifications. We ask that you please delete the SafeStop app.
We are in the final steps of the process of replacing this service with a similar program called Stop Finder. We will share information on how to download and log in to the system very soon.
New Cafeteria Menu App
In a partnership with Aramark, the app will now have menus for all PfISD campuses available. You can download the app from Apple's App Store or Google Play for Android devices.
After downloading the app, you can search for Pflugerville Independent School District or your specific campus. Searching for the District listing will provide a list of every campus that can be clicked on to view that school's menu.
PSAT Opportunities
PfISD will be administering the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT/NMSQT in October. The PSAT/NMSQT is available on October 13 to all 10th and 11th graders as well as 9th graders in Algebra II or above for their math class. The PSAT 8/9 will be administered on October 13 for all 9th graders enrolled in AVID I or Geometry. This test also is available at our middle schools to all 8th graders on October 20.
Each campus should be communicating with its parents soon regarding procedures for test day and any potential changes to the regular schedule that day. Every eligible student will automatically be enrolled to take the test by PfISD at no cost to the parents.
Pflugerville Education Foundation Events
The Pflugerville Education Foundation plays an important role in helping to raise additional funds for our teachers and students. Two of the Foundation's biggest events are coming up — the Schoolhouse Scramble and the Gala! Please read below for more details on these great events that support our schools.
- The Annual Schoolhouse Scramble is October 7, 2021 at the Star Ranch Golf Club. Teams and individual player reservations are still available, but they go fast! If you want to volunteer, contact Jennifer Fry at PEF.
- The Annual Gala is February 26, 2022, so mark your calendars now. This year’s talent show is going to be the best ever. By popular demand, schools will enter video performances of songs matching this year’s Hollywood Theme. Win $5,000, $3,000 or $1,000! Also back this year are campus-sponsored gala baskets. The school whose basket rakes in the most cash at the silent auction will win $500! Watch for more information and deadlines to submit your creative videos, like this one.
Schoolhouse Scramble
Get on the course at the Golf Club at Star Ranch for some pfun and pfriendly competition. Enjoy a barbecue lunch, drinks, snacks, contests and raffles.
Funds from the tournament benefit the children in the Pflugerville ISD by helping them experience innovation, creativity, and success in school!
Check-In/Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Shotgun start is 8:00 a.m.

Athletics Update
It was a quiet week for football all four of our high schools had their bye week. They should all be rested and ready to roll this week.
Hendrickson hosts Weiss at The Pfield on Friday night in a crosstown rivalry game. Connally welcomes Cedar Creek to The Pfield on Thursday, and PHS plays at Anderson on Thursday.
Volleyball season is getting deeper into district play and we have an exciting matchup on the slate Friday. Weiss travels to Hendrickson on Friday in matchup of teams undefeated in district play. Both teams are coming off of sweeps of their opponents on Tuesday night.
In other volleyball action, PHS heads to Bastrop and Connally travels to Elgin.
Academic Update
I’d like to recognize a special group of students at Pflugerville High School for helping students at Park Crest Middle School succeed in the classroom.
Administrators and teachers from Park Crest and PHS have worked together to create a Homework Hotline. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. Park Crest students can enter a Zoom chat room and work with a tutor to help with their homework or assignments.
The tutors are members of the PHS chapter of the National Honor Society! These tutors are students who have proven to be of high academic standing and good character. The tutoring room is monitored and assisted by Park Crest teachers Mr. Lindman and Ms. Wright.
Athletics Ticket Sales Online Only
PfISD ticket sales for athletics events will be entirely online this year. Spectators will be provided electronic tickets, and will have the option to print out tickets to be scanned at the gate. Cash transactions will be prohibited on gameday.
The move to electronic ticket sales eliminates the need to exchange and handle cash, and proved to be efficient last year when implemented by PfISD Athletics.
PfISD also is eliminating season ticket sales, as was done last year. Reserved seat tickets will also not be sold this football season. However, certain passes, including Gold Passes, which allow senior citizens free access to athletic and fine arts events, will be accepted.
Spectators will be able to purchase tickets online as early as the Monday before each home game. Tickets will be available at 2021 GameDay Tickets: The Pfield.
PfISD high school varsity teams will each play home games at The Pfield. The district will host 20 home games at The Pfield this year. This week Connally HS plays at home on Thursday night, and Hendrickson hosts Weiss on Friday for a crosstown matchup.
For the full slate of 2021 season games at The Pfield, see below.
Please continue to socially distance as much as possible, wash your hands and wear a mask. This school year, we will continue to find learning opportunities and activities to prepare our students for success in and out of the classroom.
Together this Pfamily can do anything, and through the challenges, we are #MovingPforward.
