News for the week of December 3rd

Gingerbread Theme

This week we will continue our "Gingerbread Man" Theme! We have started receiving gingerbread men from other Pre-K classes throughout the U.S. in our "Gingerbread Exchange". It has been exciting for us to get mail each day and see where each gingerbread man is from! We will read the book Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett this week and each student will get to make a gingerbread house of their own. Click on the video below to see a reading of this book.

The Napping House

We will also be reading the book The Napping House by Audrey Wood. This book is a great literacy experience for young children with its rhythmic and and repetitive text, which is cumulative, predictable, and engaging. This Friday, students will be taking home pictures from the story in a ziploc bag. Please have your child retell the story to you using the pictures. This is another retell where they don't have to memorize the exact words, but just generally tell the story using the pictures. Click below to see a video of The Napping House book.

Jolly Phonics

This week we will be learning about the letter "H". The action for the letter "H" sound is to act as if you are panting after a race holding your hand up to your mouth saying /h/ /h/ /h/. The video posted below is a new jolly phonics video I found. Use it to review the letters we have already learned and to see the letter "h" song.
