THOMPSON SAFETY DAY

Today, the Thompson community took part in our first safety day. During a safety day, students and staff practice their identified plans and behaviors in the event of crisis situations. Specifically, we take part in a fire drill, tornado drill, and a lockdown drill. Today we had representatives from both the fire and police departments observing our drills and providing feedback that helps us improve our systems. And we were able to have our very own SRO, Detective Crumlett, participate in these drills with us. By taking proactive measures to prepare for each of these emergency situations, we help ensure that our Thompson Middle School students are as safe as possible at all times.

We will continue to run safety drills periodically throughout the school year. Parents please know that the Thompson staff is vigilant with regard to our safety policies, and we will continue to make the safety of your children a priority. If you have any questions about our safety procedures, please do not hesitate to call us at (331) 228-3100.

CURRICULUM NIGHTS

Thompson’s Curriculum Night for 6th grade parents will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd and 7th and 8th grade parents will be held on Thursday, September 5th with both beginning at 6:30 pm. Please allow 15 minutes for parking and getting to your student’s first hour classroom.

The format for the night will give you the opportunity to meet your student’s teachers, learn about this year’s curriculum, and hear about classroom expectations while following your child’s schedule found in HAC. The evening will conclude by 8:15 pm. We hope all will be able to attend!

HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING PARADES

Friday, September 6th is St. Charles East’s homecoming parade. In several weeks, St. Charles North will be having their homecoming festivities as well. District check-in/check-out procedures are always in place. We prefer that middle school students remain in their classes during these high school activities. If you choose for your child to attend the parade, only you or someone on your child’s emergency contact list will be able to sign out your child with your approval. Please plan ahead! Student safety is our priority!

THOMPSON PTO

The first PTO meeting of the year took place yesterday morning. There were many new faces in attendance and I’m excited with the energy and commitment I see in this organization. Please visit their website and get involved!

Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Please join us for the Fox Mill 5K & 1-Mile Color Run/Walk on September 7, 2019 honoring Thompson graduate Kayla Lehmann. Kayla, who passed away on April 7, 2018, was a St. Charles East freshman who was passionate about music while also being an avid reader and gifted writer.

Proceeds from this year's race will benefit Kayla's Hope (www.kaylashope.org), a foundation that seeks to take away the stigma of depression and mental illness so that no one has to suffer in silence. For more information, to register, or to make a donation, please visit www.foxmill5k.com.

Help out a local cause!

Consider donating items to a recently graduated North Star as she works to complete her Girl Scout Gold Award! Brigid Millette is seeking donations of items to include in "stress-relief kits" that will be donated to schools in D303 in order to give students an opportunity to de-stress and work on healthy coping mechanisms.

New or gently used items are greatly appreciated. Donation boxes are located near the front entrances of North High School, East High School, and Thompson Middle School, and donations will be accepted through the end of August.

See the flyer included below for a list of items! THANK YOU!!!
