Fact 2
The rain forest now only covers about 2% of the whole world, but holds almost 50% of the world's plants and animals.
Fact 3
In both 2005 and 2010 the Amazon rain forest suffered severe droughts that killed off large amounts of vegetation in the worst affected areas.
Challenges that the Rain Forest is Facing
Challenge 1
People are cutting the trees which makes the forest smaller and less homes for the animals.
Challenge 2
Species lose their habitat, or can no longer subsist in the small fragments of forests that are left.

What did you learn about the Rain Forest?
I learned that the rain forest needs help and it needs us to care.
How important do you think the Rain forest is to people of South America and the world?
I think the people in South America do care because it is a huge part of there continent. But I don't think a lot of other people care maybe because they think it doesn't matter and that they don't have to do anything.
Name one organization that is helping to protect the Rain Forest and what is their purpose? The Forest Trust is an organization that is trying to transform supply chains to people and nature.

New highways that provide access to settlers and loggers into the heart of the Amazon Basin are causing widespread fragmentation of rainforests.
