We had an eventful opening of school here at North Warren Regional and October is looking just as busy. We have been in full swing with sports, college fairs, assemblies and competitions and we will continue throughout November. At the end of this newsletter you will find important dates and notable events. Please check our district calendar at http://www.northwarren.org/calendar for up to date information on all the happenings at NWR.

I have included the opening presentation from Back To School Night for those of you who could not attend. The video below highlights some changes for the year and will give you some general information about the school.

Peer Leadership

Last Friday, the North Warren Peer Leadership Program kicked of the school year with a mixer hosted by our High School Peer Leaders playing a variety of games with our Middle School students. The kids played Kick Ball, Corn Hole, Board Games and Touch Football. The Peer Leadership Program is designed to develop leadership skills among our High School population while acting as Big Brothers and Big Sisters for our younger students. Many activities are being planned to connect these younger kids with the many positive roles models we have here at North Warren. We have over 75 High School students who have volunteered to be a part of the Peer Leadership Program. These kids are true Patriots. Great job Peer Leaders!

Digital Citizenship

On Monday, October 9, the NWR staff was trained on the importance of teaching our students about Digital Citizenship. The workshop for staff covered the shifting role of schools to promote ethical and responsible online behavior as well as Internet safety to our students as they navigate the real challenges of cyberbullying, internet safety, and other digital dilemmas. Our staff was given valuable resources on integrating these lessons on digital citizenship into their curriculum.

As adults it is also imporant for us to know what our children are doing on social media and to keep them safe while at home and in the world. As a starting point, ask your son or daughter how many hours per day they spend with their technology and also ask them what apps and sites they use most. It is surprising how many hour they actually spend engaged with media!

We must work together as a team both at school and at home to keep our children safe and to provide them with the support they need in today's world.

Middle School Conferences

Middle School Conferences will be held November 13-16, 2017. The middle school team leaders will be sending information out to all parents regarding this year's procedues for requesting a conference time. We will be "going digital" this year with sign-ups. Within the next few weeks you should expect this communication from the middle school teams.
