The good news is chronic absence is a problem we can fix when schools and communities work with students and families, starting in the early grades to identify and address barriers to getting to school, and cultivate a culture of attendance that encourages showing up every day even when it isn’t easy."
September Counselor TO DOs:
- Review 15-16 referrals, attendance, grades, tardies
- Plan IPDP and Closing the Gap Goals
- Develop or revise belief, vision and mission statements
- Present information about your school counseling program and services to stakeholders (brochure, blog, website, flyer, bulletin board, Open House)
- Hold initial School Counselor Advisory Committee Meeting
- Complete or review needs assessment - teachers, staff, parents, students, community
- Develop a classroom lessons schedule
- Assess and plan for Parent Education needs
- If designated, Set up MRT Schedule, Team, Forms, and Agenda
- If designated, distribute 504’s to teachers. Complete updates and reevaluations.
- If designated, complete ELL meetings and documentation.
